PBC school district cites tea party movement; says 1,600 jobs could be cut this year
by Michael C. Bender | February 3rd, 2010Palm Beach County schools Superintendent Arthur Johnson said he is considering a cut of 1,600 non-instructional jobs to deal with an expected “dramatic reduction in stimulus funding at the end of next year.”
In his latest “economic update,” Johnson cites the anti-spending political winds, embodied by the so-called “tea party” movement.”
“There are a growing number of American citizens, via the Tea Party movement, who are committed to cutting government spending and taxes,” wrote in his update.
A discussion of Johnson’s memo is underway here.

Pass on the blame, anyone consider that the amount of foreclosures are related to the Tax Base which helps to fund education.

Question - Why does the government think it doesn’t have to work on a budget? The American people are counting pennies, while the Federal government increase over 64%! The solution is simple and what the American family is forced to do every month - Budget. If teachers are a priority, then the PBC needs to find ways to pay for them other than taxing the already over taxed tax payer.

That’s right Art, blame the Conservatives or the Tea Party Movement for the incompetence and mismanagement of funds for the PBC school district.
The sad part of this article is that a friend of mine, who is a non-instructional staff, may lose her job.
The spending is way out of control in this country, sorry Art, accountability now comes into the picture.

…and your point, Mr. Johnson, is??? Will that mean there will be more “teachers in the classrooms” than “analysists and paper pushers in the Taj Mahal” ???

Give me a crack at analyzing your school district budget Art. I’ll start by examining your compensation package. Your response is a typical one coming from a weak liberal. Accept responsibility for your own actions, don’t blame others for your predicament.

Art should go!! How can he cut all those low paid jobs yet he was hiring people like Mr. Hernandez left and right at $200,000 per year. It is sickening. Cut from the top, not the bottom!

“Anti-spending political winds”? I guess he’s resentful of not getting a blank check to do whatever he wants, however he wants, at whatever cost. Amazing how people with that philosophy always manage to find gainful employment within our government.
Restoring Honor.
