Klein-West congressional race could be one of nation’s costliest

Klein: Top-10 Dem moneyman

Klein: Top-10 Dem moneyman

The numbers crunchers at Congressional Quarterly say U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, with nearly $2.4 million in campaign cash on hand, began 2010 with the 10th fattest campaign account of all Democratic House incumbents.

Klein’s Republican rival, Allen West, began 2010 with $707,150 cash on hand — the second-highest figure for all GOP challengers, according to CQ.

West: No. 2 for GOP challenger money

West: No. 2 for GOP challenger money

Klein got 54.7 percent to defeat West in 2008. Klein spent about $2.3 million on that race while West spent less than $550,000.

Klein’s District 22 covers parts of Palm Beach and Broward counties. It was represented by Republican Clay Shaw for 26 years but has grown more Democratic and voted 52 percent for Barack Obama in 2008.

  1. Jay Says:

West is better. Klein is an elitist. His focus is to spend our money and tax us to death. He supports all Obama programs and that includes immigration reform.

That is not what FL needs, a flood of people coming to this country, where there are no jobs, people losing their homes. How can we sustain others, when we ourselves can’t sustain those already here.

VOTE OUT the incumbent. We need fiscal conservatives who see that we need to fix ourselves before we let others come to this country.

  2. Biill Neubauer Says:

Klein would be well advised to find a day job. Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey elections give evidence that the growing Tea Party movement will be moving powerfully against incumbents, especially incumbents who supported the hated health-care bill.

  3. Deb Says:

People – it is time for a change. SUPPORT WEST – he is real and honest. A great American !!!

  4. Twiggy Says:

Out with the old and in with the NEW. Allen West should lead this race with a strong message and provide the Leadership we need today. In my many times of meeting and being around him, not as a politician but as a volunteer, he is truly one of the few with the actual guts to take his ideas further once he is signed in.
    ******* GO WEST GO *******

  5. paz Says:

Go West Go! Klein is full of s&*$ and should go away and FAST. Vote West!!! A true patriot.

  10. Rush Says:

    I said retard too

  11. Charlene C. Imholz Says:

Allen West is down to earth, hard working, dedicated to one thing and one thing only: giving his all to fellow Americans. He’s a great protector of our basic rights. The best is Mr. West tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Refreshing, isn’t it?

  12. Dave Says:

It’s nice to see that the Tea Partiers have time to blog on this website. West is a dangerous man, and electing him is a scary thought. He represents the FAR RIGHT wing of this country. The man has no new concrete ideas, just token phrases that rev up the FAR RIGHT. Did you know he does not even live in the district?

  13. paz Says:

And Dave is a moron along with Barak Insane Obama and Hitler Dr. Mengele Emanuel with his brother second lt. under Hitler Obama. Speaking of time, Dave you are not too shabby with it you moron. Liberals think they are right with no option for talk and want Cuba here. Barak and his fat ass wife (healthcare now for her exercise please butt as big as Oprah’s) enjoy vacationing on my DIME and do not seem to share their wealth the pigs they are and I notice Biden is still alive after brain cancer unlike the crap he wants to give us – you have a brain tumor, see me in two years. Not Biden or his stupid ass ugly wife with nothing to add to anything. Oh she went to college to catch a rich man and her beauty lies between her thighs

  14. Bob Says:

Klein only knows one way to vote – Yes, Ms. Pelosi

  15. Jack Levine Says:

Far left name calling will never hurt us but be assured conservatives are taking back our country. Go Allen Go

  16. Jack Levine Says:

Personally I feel the country is on the wrong course therefore I’ve become an activist in the past couple of years. Debate the issues, anytime but it seems that all the far left wants to do is call people names. We win…they loose.

  17. Ryan Says:

All the name calling on both sides… “Tea Party jerk-offs vote Klien” That would really turn me off for voting Klien if his supporters had that little respect for anyone. And “Kline is full of s&*$”? This language makes this electoral process look like some kind of school yard spat. If you can’t act like you have some form of education and actually debate the issues (and yes, you can be passionate about your beliefs) then please be quiet and let the people who sit at the adult table speak. And if you aren’t willing to work together and do the best good for the most people then you are wasting your vote. Get educated. Vote with your brain and sense of reason, not your emotion. Make the wise choice. I would challenge you all to be better than that.

  18. Jim Says:

Ryan, you speak with wisdom and I agree the name calling is part of the problem and not a solution. Now having done my homework on this issue by learning what I could about both canadents, Allen West is the best one for the Congressional district, the State of Florida and for the United States. Don’t take my word, do your own home work, read every thing about both of them, don’t just listen to what other people are saying, then vote.

  19. Richard Says:

Having met Col West at a function, I was struck with his clear message and recognised him as the type you could follow into battle. He’s a quiet, strong leader and I will be proud to help send him to DC to bring sanity to the tax and spend insanity running loose there, Go West Go.

  20. Ed Fulop Says:

West will Restore Honor to FL22. Flip this House!!!

  21. Jason Says:

I am so happy that a man like West
has stood up to defend this country.
To fight for the principles and laws that has made our country great.
The constitution means something to him and to us. Thankyou AllEN WEST!!

Vote out the man who supports eroding our constitution on every issue. Vote out the man who doesnt know right from wrong.
Vote out the ones who think our founding fathers had it all wrong And are deligently working daily to change it.

  22. pbcountyvoter Says:

I did my research and I am going to vote for Klein. West’s issues in the military that forced him to retire while honorable are not the characteristics I look for in gov’t officials.

  23. Ed Fulop Says:

    PBCountyVoter –

So honor is NOT a characteristic you look for in government officials? How about principles? Valor? Courage? Tenacity? Bravery? Resolve? Loyality?
    Maybe service?

Yep — Klein is definately your guy. He sends out e-mails to his constituents (which I am) that tout himself as a “deficit hawk”, and he’s supported both stimulus bills, health care, AND promises to support Cap and Trade. Please, wake up!!!!

    Restoring Honor.

  24. Ryan Says:

In reference to pbcountryvoter’s response, it was the government officials who forced the army to make LTC West retire after the media got the story and blew it up on the front page. Full well knowing that his actions would end his career, LTC West was much more interested in saving the lives of the Nation’s most precious resource. He was charged by the government as an Officer to do everything he could to save the lives of his command. He did not have any intention to kill the man (even though by the Geneva and Hauge Conventions spies can be executed and are not given protections) but to make him give up his information. Not to mention I am sure that the parents of the men whose lives were not lost due to a SPY informing the enemy were most grateful. So he valued his men’s lives over his military career- and that is a value you don’t look for in a leader? You lost me on your point. I would also ask what relevance that has on the issues of this election?
