Crist says Rubio ‘absurd’ for not wanting to count illegal immigrants in census
by Michael C. Bender | February 3rd, 2010Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that illegal immigrants should not count in the census, a position that would cost the state federal money and one that puts him at odds with Gov. Charlie Crist — his primary opponent — as well as the Republican-controlled legislature.
Rubio’s spokesman told the paper that his position was based on “rightful representation in Congress and ensuring that every voter has an equal voice.”
Today, Crist, trailing Rubio in recent polls, called the former state House speaker’s position “absurd.”
“Florida deserves to have her fair share. And I think making sure that we count every single Floridian is vitally important. That’s why I went to the school yesterday in North Miami,” Crist said.
“It is important. It’s important to our state, it’s important to our people. And the notion that you would not want to accept federal funding to make a political statement is absurd.”

So Crist wants to count illegals in the census so we get more Federal Money. How is this guy a Republican again?
February 3rd, 2010 at 11:55 am
And this is why Crist shall lose. What is it about the word ILLEGAL that he and his ilk do not understand?

Marco Rubio is principled, his opponent will do anything convenient.

Crist’s key words were “Fair Share.” It’s the exact words Progressives and other Dems use to defend fleecing free men of their possessions.
News flash Charlie, it’s not the Federal Governments money that you want for Florida, it’s the tax paying legal citizens’ money!!

This person has no contact with reality. Why does the people of Florida have to succumb to his selective leadership and thoughts. If time would allow Crist should be impeached. A better solution would be investigation and prosecution by the Feds for all of his corrupt activities. This man has no business making decisions on behalf of the people of Florida let alone the people of the United States of America.

You can’t expect Charlie not to think Marco Rubio’s position is obsurd. I mean like Marco Rubio 12 points ahead of Crist yesterday and climbing every day. Crist is still standing there scratching his butt trying to figure out what is going on! Charlie remember the old “smoke and mirrors” campaign! Well guess what “you broke your own mirror.” You wonder how everyone knows about your sick lifestyle and beard wife
you married trying to fool McCain into choosing you as VP. Modern communications, it doesn’t matter that you hire all those experts to cover up your sick lifestyle and other problems. The people have all methods of personal networks to spread the truth. And as you can well see it works!

Illegal immigrants are not Floridians. Crist shames hardworking Floridians by characterizing us as needy victims dependent upon the state’s largesse. We don’t need government handouts paid for by our fellow citizens. We need the government to get out of the way – and that includes Crist.

Imagine how much money we would save if we just tabulated all the legal social security numbers domiciled in each state. All those state with million of illegals would lose congressional seats while other states with few illegal aliens would gain those seats. Sounds fair to me. Get rid of the census and count social security numbers every 2 years.
February 4th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
every person who is repersenting WE THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE ROUNDING UP THE ILLEGALS & TOSSING THEM INTO PRISON FOR 10 YEARS!!! those who are repersenting THE ILLEGALS SHOULD BE TRIED FOR TRESON & TOSSED INTO PRISON FOR LIFE!!! CRIST YOU NEED TO REPERSENT THOSE THAT PUT YOU IN NOT THOSE THAT ARE CRIMINALS!!

Great count them , so we know how many to send back.

I thought only the Democrat Senators and Obama played the game where the Ends Justified the Means, such as giving Landrieu 300 billion and all kinds of things to Nebraska’s Nelson for going along with the health care vote!
Hey, Floridia Republicans! VOTE CRIST OUT! VOTE RUBIO!
I’m in Arizona and will vote against McCAIN for the same reason!
NO MORE CORRUPT REPUBLICANS!!

Isn’t Florida paet of the United States, and isn’t the census supposed to count householsd of U.S. citizens? Is it possible that Florida wouldn’t need this money if we didn’t keep giving money to illegals for welfare, wic, and other programs? Great idea Christ when we are in the biggest economic downturn in decades. What a moron.
February 5th, 2010 at 12:25 am
is Crist an illegal?
Crist needs to move to the White House as Obama’s valet.
February 5th, 2010 at 2:53 am
This is why Crist is losing to Rubio in the polls and will lose in the primary. The Constitution says the census is to count the US citizens, illegal aliens should never be counted, they aren’t US citizens. I don’t know why Crist doesn’t just change his party affilation to the party he is more inclined to agree with the Democratic Party. If the US would just enforce the laws about fining employers that hire the illegal aliens and the landlords that rent to them, we wouldn’t have to deport them, they would leave voluntarily.
February 5th, 2010 at 9:01 am
Please do not vote for Crist! Don’t vote for anyone that wants illegals counted in the census, or wants to grant them amnesty, or even is too weak to deport them!
Illegals ARE costing us Millions each and every year.
It is not our job to take care of the whole world!
The elite have taken our jobs and dispersed them to the world, now look what is happening!
The elites are ruining our land of opportunity for her own citizens!
February 5th, 2010 at 9:43 am
Rubio is running for the wrong office. He should be our next governor, not our next senator!
Here’s hoping Carl (#14) is right and McCain will be put out to pasture as well.
February 5th, 2010 at 10:45 am
This is why we need to vote these characters in for one term only.
WE NEED ONE TERM LIMIT BADLY!!!
February 5th, 2010 at 11:28 am
And Crist wonders why we the people want people like him out of our government? He has got a one way ticket to what ever country he would like to visit as soon as the voting results are in as he is no longer wanted to represent the people of the United States of America. Maybe Chavez can use this turn coat
February 5th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
Jesus, Christ, how many times to you need to stick a paperclip in an electrical outlet before you realize not to do it? Your numbers in the race have plummeted because of your liberal positions. Your solution? Adopt more liberal positions. That makes as much sense as Obama’s premise that to get out of debt we need to go trillions of dollars further INTO debt.
February 5th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
Please friends: get the word out to everyone you can. Our only hope short of marching on city hall and taking it by force is to vote these traitors like Crist out of office.
McCain and the entire Neocon batch of traitors need to go. They sold us out to international interests. It all ties together: illegals here by the tens of millions, trying to legalize them, allowing the international banks to charge us 30% interest rates, letting our best jobs get outsourced and bringing in a million foreign workers on visa per year, running unfair-to-USA trade practices with China, all of it.
The Neocons are no different from the Dems. Get rid of them while you still can. I say again: those like Crist are traitors. That includes all the Bush’s, especially Jeb Bush.
Make sure Crist pays the price for his anti-American position on the census.

I made the mistake of voting for Crist once. However, it’s his stance on issues like this and his lack of connection with the people of Florida that make it a certainty I will never vote for him again for any elected position.
February 6th, 2010 at 10:38 am
Well, looks like our loving governor
thinks illegals from Haiti, South America etc. are Floridians. What a small brain. I though Floridians are
the one who live here legally and pay taxes. I voted for him once, never more Crist is another brain dead politician.
February 6th, 2010 at 10:57 am
HES WORSE THAN A BRAIN DEAD POLITICIAN HES A TRAITOR AND AN ANTI AMERICAN, AND HES A DANGER TO LEGAL AMERICANS EVERYWHERE, JUST AS ANYONE WHO CODDLES ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR IS A DANGER TO OUR WAY OF LIFE. RINOS LIKE HIM NEED TO BE BOOTED OUT OF OFFICE FOREVER.

Are you people under the impression that the Census is just supposed to count voters or citizens? Read the Constitution, please, it’s very clear that all “inhabitants” are to be counted.
February 6th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
johndburger –
Read it yourself! The word “inhabitants” is NOWHERE in Article 1 Section 2 of our Constitution. The spirit of both the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence centers around taxation and representation of “free persons”. While it never clearly states the word “citizens”, it never says “inhabitants” either. There are lines in there also about the “exclusion of Indians NOT TAXED” from the enumeration of Representatives for the House. You could therefore infer that those people not paying taxes weren’t going to be counted. If you demand representation for your taxation, the opposite must also hold true — no taxation, no representation.
February 7th, 2010 at 9:24 am
@Ed Fulop
Oops, you’re right – that’s what I get for reading =about= the Constitution instead of the document itself.
What I was reading about was the actual Federal law passed in 1790 (by largely the same group of Founders) to =implement= the Census. This is, I believe, where your quote about “Indians not taxed” comes from. But this clearly says “cause the number of the inhabitants within their respective districts to be taken”, and “Indians” are the only group called out as not to be counted. Slaves, women, children were all to be counted. Taxation is a red herring, I believe, it was about representation.
In any event, the Constitution itself pretty clearly says that Congress gets to decide how to implement the Census: “in such Manner as they shall by Law direct”. And current Federal statute is quite clear that all inhabitants are to be counted.
I must confess I don’t understand the furor over this at all. If Rubio thinks only “voters” are to be counted, then lots of groups would be excluded: =legal= aliens, children, prisoners, etc.

Let’s say you belong to a gym that you pay $40 a month to work out at, OK. You sign a 3 year contract at that rate, and you’re going 4 times a week –starting to look really buff, I might add. Times are tough, though, so the gym has to lower it’s price to $20 a month to attract more people. You’re not so happy, but you know you committed to that price, and you’re looking good now, so you don’t say anything, you just continue to pay more. Well, the new lower price attracts many more folks, it’s a lot more crowded, your 60 minute workout now takes 90 minutes or more because you have to stand around waiting for machines to be available, etc. As a result, you have to cut back to 3 visits a week because you just can’t make the time work for you. Less utility of the club, same $40 month continues, right? OK. Well, this goes on for a while, until some benevolent entity decides to fund memberships to the club to those who can’t afford it on their own. It’s the right thing to do, everyone should have access who wants to have access, right? And because this entity is buying so many memberships for their group, they negotiate a lower rate and get them for $5 a month. Free to the actual users of the gym, mind you, just $5 a month to the benevolent entity.
Now, the place is packed elbow to elbow everytime you go to work out. In 90 minutes, your lucky if you get to use 2 machines because of all of the standing around you have to do waiting for machines to open up. Because they are being overused, machines also start to break quicker, and the overall condition of the place starts to slide.
Same $40 a month for you and a handful of others, many more at $20, and even more for free. You barely go twice a week now because of the hassle. Pounds start to come back, health starts to decline, etc. You read the paper more than you work out, and in your reading you discover that a charity you contribute to regularly is behind the benevolent entity that is funding the free access to the underpriveledged at your gym! So the $40 your paying a month, is actually more like $55 or $60, and you’re barely getting any utility out of it any more. A little while later, the gym sends you a letter in the mail saying that they are looking
into expanding the gym because of the over-crowding with all of it’s members, but they want to ask the membership their opinion by voting, and the ballot is included in the envelope. You vote a resounding “YES!” in the hopes of freeing up the machines so you can get back to your regimen and maintain your hard-earned abs. Well, unfortunately for you, the majority of the members (the ones who get their membership for free because you are helping to subsidize them) votes to keep it small, because they were told by their benevolent entity to vote no. A bigger gym would lead to an increase in the monthly fee, which they can’t afford, so the gym stays as is, with you barely getting to use it, right.
Almost finished, bear with me a moment longer. Let’s fast forward a bit, and you 3 year contract is almost satisfied. You get the renewal notice from the gym in the mail on the same day that a letter from the charity arrives saying they need your money now more that ever, to support all of their great programs. What are you going to do?
February 7th, 2010 at 10:49 am
i say screw the charity and screw the gym and work to take america back for the tax payers and legal citizens that made this country what it is and have held it together this long, every pro illegal anti american politician needs to be booted out of office forever while we still have a country.

I am outraged that Charlie would legitimize people who’s first action in this country is breaking it’s laws just for federal money… the country is doomed. Our children and grandchildren will grow up in a world where they will have to press 1 for their own language and be indoctrinated into white guilt in the public schools until we are bred out of existence and replaced with a third world population with no intent on becoming Americans…
It’s all over folks, either we take it back and deport the criminals sneaking in and the terrorists preaching on our street corners, exploiting our constitution (which they despise), or watch this country go down in flames in 20 years max… mark my words.
And where are the civil rights leaders fighting for low income jobs that are the first to be stolen from African Americans by the underpaid illegal aliens?
Wasn’t Rubio rubbing elbows with La Razza not too long ago? That would be like Charlie hanging out with Klansman dixiecrats if there was not a double standard in today’s excuse for a world.
So everyone party up, have lots of same sex and get abortions if you accidentally mate properly. Take as many pills as you can, pursue your careers, put off having children and don’t freak out when you are in a nursing home and some illegal immigrant is stealing change out of your pocket (or worse) as you drool in your chair and stair out the window at what was once your country.
Haha sweet dreams.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Update:
Ooops… sorry that was Mel Martinez, the other GOP sellout.
Rubio is not connected with “The Race” (La Razza).
Republicans need to stop preaching the gospel and start leading this nation like a family business or they will be extinct soon.
