Sen. Nan Rich: Republican ‘jobs summit’ a seance for old ideas
by Michael C. Bender | January 15th, 2010Sen. Nan Rich, D-Sunrise, in a letter to the editor:
Creation of jobs is critical, but not the kind Sen. Mike Haridopolos, R-Melbourne, and Rep. Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, would create under more-of-the-same trickle-down policies. Certainly not the kind created once government restrictions are removed, growth management and environmental protections are gutted and industry regulations are lifted.

I always find it amusing when someone criticizes someone else for trying. If Nan Rich wants to sit around in Westin, drinking lattes and talking to old folks about the good old days, good for her. But I am glad that we at least have a few state legislators elsewhere who are meeting, discussing these issues and trying to find solutions. Reality is, anything that comes of our this meeting in Orlando will still need the approval of the majority of 160 legislators and the governor. But only an ignorant person like Nan Rich would criticize the meeting before its even happened. Rather than criticizing a meeting that hasn’t even finished, she might do more good for humanity if she had a similar forum in her own community.

Whatwould Nan Rich know about jobs in the first place. Has she ever had a real job? She married a rich guy & lives in her Weston gated communituy secluded from the real world.

It’s a shame that some apparently want to score political points at the expense of suffering people.
Sen. Rich is a wonderful woman who has been badly served by whoever suggested she put her name on this. It is bad form and contrary to the collegial spirit of the Florida Senate for her to criticize the event before it happened. While more than 300 leaders from Florida’s business and educational community (including labor) took time out to attend the summit and share their thoughts, Sen. Rich didn’t even bother to attend the Summit and add her ideas to the mix.
