“This was the season’s most entertaining episode of American Home Makeover.”

millieherreraFlorida Democratic Party Hispanic Advisory Council Chairwoman Millie Herrera:

“I fully support his proposal for $30 billion for small business access to capital. The focus in 2010 is jobs.”

__________________________________________________

albertmartinezFlorida Republican strategist Albert Martinez:

“If you are one of the 1.1 million Floridians without work, and wondering why your tax dollars were squandered in a stimulus package that hasn’t created a single net job, there wasn’t anything in the President’s speech that will bring you any comfort.”

__________________________________________________

steveschaleFlorida Democratic operative Steve Schale:

“Tonight, the President laid out an agressive agenda to get the country back to work, but more importantly, he showed why the American people sent him to Washington, to be the country’s adult.”

rickwilsonFlorida Republican operative Rick Wilson on Obama’s request that Congress take a second look at health care reform:

“We’ll take another look. Ok. Looked. Still no.”

phillipperryFlorida Democratic strategist Phillip Perry:

“Glad to hear an ambitious State of the Union from President Obama tonight. If we accomplish everything in it, Democrats shouldn’t have problems in November.”

__________________________________________________

Florida Republican strategist Cory Tilley:

“Obama delivered on the rhetoric – will he follow though this year and actually govern successful? A lot mid-term elections will be decided on that question.”

__________________________________________________

siddinersteinPalm Beach County GOP Chairman Sid Dinerstein:

“The continued fight for Obama-care and cap-and-trade shows contempt for the electorate.”

__________________________________________________

charliecristRepublican Gov. Charlie Crist:

“I look forward to seeing the President tomorrow to tell him myself the direction I believe our country should move towards, not just in talk but in action: a commitment to lower taxes for families and small businesses; to pay down the deficit and stop out of control federal spending; to provide a real solution to the growing unemployment rate; and to, once and for all, put an end to a government run health care plan.”

__________________________________________________

mccollum_bio1Florida Republican Attorney General Bill McCollum:

I was disappointed he failed to articulate a clear cut, broad-based plan to reduce burdens on taxpayers, reduce burdens on small businesses and address the major issues central to job creation.

__________________________________________________

atwaterSenate President Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach:

“Spending cuts, Mr. President … not just a temporary freeze.”

__________________________________________________

deutch7State Sen. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton:

“It is my sincerest hope that both Democrats and Republicans in Congress heed the President’s call to boost our economy by passing increases to direct lending for small businesses, education reforms that will enhance our competitive edge, and consumer protections that will shield Americans from the risky behavior on Wall Street that led to this devastating recession.”

__________________________________________________

billnelsonflaU.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.:

“I think health care legislation took too long and now we must focus on jobs, the economy, Wall Street bank reform and reducing the deficit.”

__________________________________________________

georgelemieuxU.S. Sen. George LeMieux, R-Fla.:

The President missed a golden opportunity to give the American people real solutions. I suggest the President acknowledge the problems we face are due in part to too much government – too much spending, and a failure to focus on the real problems at hand.

alceehastingsmug1U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar:

__________________________________________________

tomrooneyU.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Tequesta:

“I disagree with his defense of the failed stimulus bill and continued assertion that we can spend our way out of this downturn.”

__________________________________________________

meekU.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Miami:

“Obama made clear that his focus is my focus: Helping middle class Floridians regain their economic security and encouraging small business that make up the backbone of Florida’s economy to thrive once again.”

__________________________________________________

corrine_brownU.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Jacksonville:

“For the woman who cannot get insurance coverage because she is diabetic and has a pre-existing condition, to the one in nine children in America without heath care, to the millions of middle class American citizens who skip necessary treatments because they cannot afford it, it is for them that we desperately need to pass a health care bill that will ensure that all Americans are covered and have access to affordable care.”

jim-greerFlorida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer:

“Tonight’s speech was a classic example of the President’s ability to convey, in a very eloquent way, an essentially meaningless message.”

I read about 1/2 of the representaive’s comments, and to me it spinded like party politics as usual:
The President’s party all cheers. The opposition party all jeers.

Both of them will drag this country to the bottom of the ocean if they don’t get their act togather soon and cooperate.

  3. Bette Says:

We are Americans first and we need to work together. Even though I am conservative, I felt it was a good speech and tax cuts for small business are sorely needed. We also need to bring jobs from overseas which was good to be mentioned. However, there is way too much government regulation - not happy with that. Health care - cover those who have pre-existing, let coverage cross state lines and see how that goes. You can add more down the road. Why cram all of it down our throats? “the uninsured = illegal aliens most likely.

    Mr. President:
Government is the solution, it is the problem. Please use common sense, join dead center America and stop promoting policies that kill jobs and free enterprise. Since you have been elected we have lost over 5.2 million jobs. America can’t afford your out of control spend and job killing policies.

First administration in history to use a “saved jobs” number. What a crock!
That isn’t even measured by anyone.
Business Owners aren’t hiring so the rest of us are suffering. If you are a Pro Obama business owner I suggest you hire more people! All the dems tried to shove health care taxes down peoples throats and now they are running away from it. We know how you voted.

  6. Everett Wilkinson Says:

  7. Sammy Says:

Like Obama, the elected officials both said nothing about his speech. We want content, substance not all this. The only one that even responded to anyting Obama said was Hastings.

Remember your actions always speak louder than your words. We learned that from Bush and we see it again from Obama.

Democrats stand up and Republicans stand up.

Say something that a speech writer is not writing for you, do your job and get a backbone.

November will tell us something for sure.

  8. SFLmom Says:

    To The Same as Always:

I totally agree with you. Reading the comments of our State Representatives is a classic “you stay on your side and I’ll stay on mine” dialogue. I for one am sick of it!!

Not everything the President said was perfect; but not all of it was crap either. I truly wish these elected officials could see past the division of their parties and stop looking at this whole political mess from a popularity standpoint.

Our country is in serious trouble, and, to agree with the President, we cannot continue to do politics in the same old bi-partisan manner. That is exactly what has put us where we are.

How about agreeing on something for once without all of this childish behavior. I will tell you one thing, I am watching very closely, as I hope all of you are, and I refuse to vote for anyone in either party, who is part of the problem and not the solution.

  9. c Says:

If we don’t quickly put in our hearts that we are Americans 1st we are going down. If people could just put the hate for no reason behind them and put in their hearts that we need to all work together things will go better quickly. The above politicians is a major example Republicans this way and Democrats the other. We should NOT let others influence us we all should look at the BIG picture. IF what is being said is good for the Americans go for it. And I truly believe that what President Obama is saying is for the Good of the Country.

  10. PLEASE WAKEUP Says:

Please wake up people. DO NOT JUDGE HIM BY WHAT HE SAYS, BUT JUDGE HIM BY WHAT HE DOES. You cannot believe a single word Osama says. He is the biggest liar in the history of politics. The sad part is that 65 million of you idiots fell for it hook, line and sinker. Thanks a lot

Maybe you didn’t hear that we don’t have to think for ourselves anymore, the Messiah knows what’s best for us.
