E-mail Subject Line of the Day: ‘We’re #1. WTF?!?!’

by Michael C. Bender | January 26th, 2010

UPDATE: Beaven has sent out this e-mail apologizing, saying the subject line was written by an “impassioned staffer.”

Beaven

Beaven

That’s the attention-grabbing subject line from Democratic U.S. House candidate Heather Beaven, who’s hoping to knock off Republican incumbent John Mica in an Orlando area Congressional District this year.

Beaven’s e-mail today included the latest newsletter from her campaign, which announced that equal-pay-for-women activist Lilly Ledbetter will stump for Beaven next month.

The e-mail also highlights that Flagler County is No. 1 the state in underemployment, which apparently inspired Beaven’s colorful exclamation.

From the e-mail:

WE’RE #1 … in unemployment in Flagler County

December 2009 Unemployment Stats (Statewide Average is 11.8%)

Flagler 16.9%

Orange 11.8%

Putnam 12.9%

St. Johns 9.6%

Seminole 10.9%

Volusia 12.5%

Of the 6 counties in this congressional district, only 2 are below the horrifically high statewide unemployment rate. Unfortunately, Flagler County has the highest unemployment rate of any county in Florida. This begs the question: what the hell is Mica up to in Washington?

What’s more is that the unemployment rate for our recently discharged veterans is 18%. Last quarter, taxpayers paid $186 million for Veterans’ unemployment benefits. That is 70% higher than in 2008. On average our returning veterans are looking for employment for a year after returning to civilian life. Why? Well, the Congress hasn’t bothered to reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act even though they were responsible for doing just that in 2005…and every year since.

Enough is enough Mica! We’re ready for a 21st century approach to job creation, not another do-nothing congressman who willingly goes along in Washington to get along. That’s why I’ll work to create the jobs and opportunities of the future and I’ll proudly support re- authorization of the Workforce Investment Act!

Let’s get serious…how much can a simple congressman do to turn the economy of a COUNTRY around??? And for someone who has never been in that position to assume they can do better, well, that has always amused me. Kind of like Obama claiming he can do better than Bush and just like Obama, I doubt if she would be able to do anything.

  3. Susan Says:

JohnnyB: Bush and Cheney really screwed things up- hard for anyone to “undo” what they did, Democrat or Republican.

  4. John J. Tormey III, Esq. Says:

It’s funny to me that anyone would even blink about an innocuous acronym like ‘WTF’. The fact of the matter is, that’s the precise expression that 87% of all Congressional Legislative Assistants on Capitol Hill exclaim, each time they see Congressman John Luigi Mica’s preposterous hairpiece ergonomically wafting through the Rayburn Building with no visible means of support. It’s also undoubtedly the same expression that 100% of the Maitland P.D. uttered when watching the Congressman’s daughter D’Anne Mica dance her drunken Tarantella in her DUI video now available on youtube and coming soon to a video-store near you.

JohnnyB….pipe down, Obama & Biden were a better choice than Maverick & the MILF. Doubt they would have been able to do anything either.

Give Beaven a chance. The fact that she hasn’t been in “that position” before gives her the advantage of fresh eyes. Surely Mica’s eyes have been bloodshot over the last 20 years of lining his pockets.
