Democrat Deutch: Massachusetts a “wake-up call” — and a fund-raising tool

Will Massachusetts Republican superstar Scott Brown help South Florida Democratic congressional hopeful Ted Deutch raise money?

State Sen. Deutch of Boca Raton, heavily favored in a special election to replace Democrat Robert Wexler in Congress, says Brown’s victory in Tuesday’s Massachusetts Senate special election proves he can’t take anything for granted, even in an overwhelmingly Democratic congressional district.

In a fund-raising e-mail titled “Wake Up Call,” Deutch notes that Massachusetts has “a similar electorate to my congressional district” and “based on the results out of Massachusetts, I must work to introduce myself and my commitment to the community to an even wider spectrum of voters. To achieve this result, I must again ask for your help….”

Read Deutch’s entire fund-raising e-mail after the jump….

Dear Friends,

Yesterday was a day that filled me with mixed emotions. On the one hand, I couldn’t have been more proud that former President Bill Clinton endorsed me in Boca Raton and hosted an event in support of my campaign. On the other hand, I was dismayed to see Democrat Martha Coakley lose her Senate race in a state with a similar electorate to my congressional district.

This much is clear based on last night’s results: I can take nothing for granted in my upcoming congressional special election to replace retiring Rep. Robert Wexler. In the short days and weeks before Election Day, I will continue to work as hard as possible to ensure that I will win election to Congress.  However, based on the results out of Massachusetts, I must work to introduce myself and my commitment to the community to an even wider spectrum of voters. To achieve this result, I must again ask for your help.

A headline in the Palm Beach Post today reads “GOP hopes momentum travels south after big win in Massachusetts.” The article quotes a national GOP spokesman discussing my race and stating “Massachusetts should send shivers down the spine of any Democrat on the ballot. I would think it’s fair to say there is a renewed interest in targeting seats that previously were thought impenetrable by Republicans.”

In this difficult political environment, I now need your help more than ever. There are no sure things in politics. For those of you who have already contributed, I would be grateful if you could again support my campaign. For those of you who have not yet made a contribution, I would be grateful for you to join our efforts today.

I cannot thank you enough for your friendship and support.  It would be my great honor to serve you in the United States Congress.

Senator Ted Deutch

  2. Support Deutch Says:

    Ted:

You have the upper hand. Stop the commercials. Ease the emails. You are giving more fodder to the press and opponents. The ads with Wexler can only hurt, not help.

Shut up and you’ll win this thing.

    A strong supporter

  3. Same stuff Says:

We DON’T want the Robert ‘carpetbagger’ Wexler’s HANDPICKED candidate, Ted Deutch.

Deutch WILL continue the same TAXING, SPENDING, he’s WEXLER’s HANDPICKED GUY!
    What else do you expect?

Wexler and the Democrat healthcare bill did NOT include:

TORT REFORM, PORTABILITY, but it did have SEVERE CUTS IN MEDICARE and RATIONED HEALTHCARE (already government PAID doctors are ‘recommending’ fewer mammograms, CAT scans, cervical screenings) THAT’s what coming with Wexler’s choice….Deutch

Deutch NEVER SPOKE UP AND AGAINST THE DEMOCRAT HEALTHCARE PLAN.

    Vote OUT democrats, rebalance government!

  4. Democratic disappointment Says:

The machine has an insatiable hunger for more and more money. Greed at it’s worst. The lobbyists must own this guy big time.Deutch is bad news folks.

  5. Ed Fulop Says:

As of last night’s pop-over by “Slick Willie” himself, Ted Deutch has amassed a campaign war-chest in excess of $1 million dollars!!! For a special election, where the incumbent didn’t announce his desires to leave until late October!!! Less than 3 months, and he’s got $1 million. What does that tell you??? He is bought and paid for by special interests!! We can do better.

Get involved. Make history. Flip the house.

  6. Lw Says:

Amazing how the Democrats can speak as if they want us to think they are for the working class while they have a war chest filled with money from big business and banks. Duh, we’re not all that stupid. Anyone that Wexler endorses is not someone I want in office.

  7. Laugher Says:

Look, both sides have the big bucks from the big companies. If you think otherwise you are a fool. I may vote for Republicans if and when they realize that supply side economics do not work!!! You can’t create supply to generate demand. It’s the other way around. Giving money to the top 1% doesn’t employ people. It makes 1% richer because the money goes into their banks. The middle class spend money, thats why they aren’t really rich. Don’t tax them heavily and you will see the economy grow. We cannot change our economic system. It’s build upon spending and credit.
