Graber criticizes Obama’s Afghanistan strategy in Dem primary

by George Bennett | December 4th, 2009

State Sen. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, praised President Obama’s Afghanistan strategy as “thoughtful” during a Voters Coalition debate Thursday while his rival in a special Democratic congressional primary, Ben Graber, declared himself “against the escalation in Afghanistan” and opposed to “militarism” in general.

It was the most significant policy difference between the Dems vying to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Boca Raton. Both voiced support for a government-run public option as part of health care reform.

Three Republicans running in the special election were supportive of Obama’s call for 30,000 more troops. GOP candidates Ed Lynch, Joe Budd and Curt Price also took similar positions against tax hikes, gun control and a public option.

The voting decision facing voters of Congressional District 19 is of vital importance. We must look at both Democratic candidates (because this is a Democratic District and MUST be led by a Democrat,) and choose the one who clearly stands above the other. The most significant difference between the two Democratic candidates running for Robert Wexler’s seat is the breadth and depth of Senator Deutch’s knowledge. It is obvious in his presentation as well as his ability to respond quickly to any question that clearly shows Senator Deutch has a broad understanding of the issues facing his constituents, both in his Senate district and what will become his Congressional district. Finally, we should choose the most dynamic and passionate speaker to whom we’ll be listening to for the next decade or so, and that is clearly Senator Ted Deutch.

Sharon I beg to differ. Dr. Graber served in the state house 8 years( 4 terms), Mr. Deutch served 3 years( still in his first term. Dr. Graber served 6 years as a County Commissioner, Vice Mayor and Mayor. Total 14 years. He was a leader in the legislature, a chief executive and a diplomat exchanging trade with China. He is also a Physician and successful health reformer. I heard him speak, he is by far the better, more dynamic speaker. He also speaks from his heart, unlike Mr. Deutch who speaks from his notes. Graber doesn’t use cliche’s , he uses intelligence. You are right we need the best man here..it is clearly Dr. Graber.
