Crist makes bid for high speed rail money from feds
by Michael C. Bender | December 10th, 2009Two days after the legislature approved a commuter rail package for South and Central Florida, Republican Gov. Charlie Crist sent a memo today to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood encouraging him to approve Florida’s application for stimulus money to build a high speed rail.
From the letter:
The transportation bill passed this week resoundingly demonstrates Florida’s support for passenger rail transportation. As a result, the Sunshine State will reduce congestion on our roadways and create more efficient travel options for our residents and visitors. In addition, we look forward to the increased economic opportunities for local businesses and the subsequent job creation.
…
I believe that high speed rail will be a critical component to strengthening our portfolio of alternative transportation. As you know, acceptance of Florida’s Track 2 Application this year will ensure that implementation of the Tampa-Orlando segment can begin in 2010. Therefore, I formally request your approval of Florida’s application to develop high speed rail.

Just like a crack addict; Crist can try to distance himself from Obama’s stimulus all he wants while he campaigns for Senator, but when the Fed’s ring the dinner bell, he’s the first one at the trough. We need to hang this around his neck like a scarlett letter from now until the primary, and send him home next November.

Crist loves a dollar anywhere he can get it. He’ll take free plane rides and repay the giver with a seat on the Bd of Directors (Dr. Scott U F and Mori Hosseini’s sister on St Johns Water Management.) A few dollars can buy you a judges seat. Big Sugar, Everglades, Stanaki Land deal. I mean can someone tell me if this dude has ever done anything honest in his life. Obviously, he’s been lying about his homo sex life forever. Please someone call for an investigaton into his corruption. Oh, maybe thats what all those nice folks in suits were doing talking to the state senators last week.
Where there’s smoke there’s fire and and Smokey the Bear’s going to need a lot of help to put his one out.

I think it is admirable for the Governor to work to bring our state into the mainstream with the likes of Boston, New York, or North Carolina. A high speed rail system is long over due in the State of Florida. Heck, Disney’s monorail system has been in place for well over 30 years. You would have thought Florida would have followed suit decades ago. Unfortunately short sighted politicians and issue advocacy has prevented progress in transportation.
