Power lunch: Biden to raise money for Dems today at Boca Raton home
by George Bennett | October 29th, 2009Tickets start at $1,000.
Gilbert was campaign finance chairman for Ron Klein in 2006 when the Democratic challenger raised more than $4.1 million and ousted incumbent Republican Rep. Clay Shaw to represent a Palm Beach-Broward congressional seat. Gilbert also raised money for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
“It’s important for Palm Beach County to have people with a national voice and a national reach that allows our view to be put forth,” said county Democratic Chairman Mark Alan Siegel, who’s going to the lunch.
After the Boca stop, Biden heads to Miami for another fund-raiser. President Obama was in Miami Beach to raise money for Democratic House and Senate candidates on Monday night.

I was stuck in the traffic jam that was a result of Biden being in Boca. It was like a scene from “The Day The Earth Stood Still.” And for what!!!???? So this moron can go and have lunch!!!!???? Meanwhile, thousands are inconvenienced, stuck in traffic around Yamato Road for this one man to have lunch.

Have to agree with Cousin Paulie. Wouldn’t it be better to be incognito about visiting instead of using the entire police force? He could have driven right by us here in South Florida and no one here cares about anyone but themselves, would have never noticed.

So how much did that police protection cost Boca (read: the tax payers)?

It does seem reasonable to protect the top two leaders of the country, and you can’t do that incognito. What they did was what they had to do. It would have been nice if Biden found some official business to conduct while in the area, but RHIP.

Well the last on the traffic jams have cleared up. I watched the whole mess from my office as traffic was prevented from getting in yamato & air space in the area was shut down. It was pretty cool to see it all in action but one can’t help but think of all of the tax dollars that were spent on this just so the vice pres can fundraise. Hardly seems right to me!

What a traffic mess!!! Why tie up traffic like that? Hundreds of people are inconvenienced just so that the V.P. can go to a luncheon. I agree with Cousin Paulie and Scott!

Ummm, the comments regarding this article are annoying to say the least. In typical South Florida fashion, the general public is more concerned with a traffic jam than the subject at hand. And the average citizen down here probably has no clue as to who Joe Biden even is.
The problem I have with the VP suggesting how bad the economy has been devastated here in the aftermath of the “if you can fog a mirror, some bank will give you an interest-only loan so you can buy a Palm Beach estate” wave, is that from 2004 to 2008 no politician was warning. Economists and scholars were. I was writing articles about my old neighbors in Coral Springs who were from some foreign place and didn’t speak English who managed to buy a quarter-million dollar home. Now it is years later and we have experts and politicans all saying what a big mess the economy is. Fund raising is being done in Palm Beach where they actually have money and probably own multiple houses outright…so the unemployment rate is not really affecting half of those attending the fund raiser I would assume.

Oh, and the other comments are from guys annoyed at slowed traffic….probably on their way to a much more important and interesting venue such as a sports bar to drink beer buckets. I remember the night of September 11th, 2001. You could hear jets patrolling the coast line up the state, Colin Powell had us on high alert, everyone was glued to the TV to see what Kissinger said.
The next day…the girl I was dating invited me for two for one drink specials after work at Max’s Grill. That is South Florida for you.
