Attorney Rob Ostrov, a Democrat who lost a 2008 state House challenge to Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton, has opened a campaign for the Wellington village council seat of Lizbeth Benacquisto, who’s term-limited in March 2010 and running for state Senate.

Ostrov’s also interested in Palm Beach County Commissioner Jess Santamaria’s seat if Santamaria decides not to seek reelection next year. Santamaria has said he’ll announce his 2010 plans shortly after the new year. Democrat Elissa Pearl has opened a campaign for Santamaria’s seat.

  1. Horse Jumper Says:

I’ve been in Wellington for 13 years and I follow local politics and I’ve never heard of Rob Ostrov. Does he live in Wellington, or is he another carpetbagging politician seeking election in a foreign district?

Are you listening Sharon Merchant and Ken Rader?

  2. D Tarnovsky Says:

Being Jewish, it irritates me seeing someone like Ostrov, who has no ties to the Wellington community, come in here and expect to be elected because there’s a substantial Jewish population in Wellington.

To me it’s a cynical, condescending action and I find it offensive.

  3. Realist Says:

He is a total carpetbagger. He has tried every race in the county.

  4. Jessica Says:

If he ran against Hasner then he must be a carpetbagger? Hasners house seat does not cover wellington? Unless he used someone elses address to run against Hasner, or if he uses someone elses address to run for these seats.

Don’t take this the wrong way but what is it with Democrats in this area who dont abide by the US Constitution or the Florida Constitution and run where they can’t?

Wexler pulled the same thing last year. Granted he “supposedly” made things right by “renting” an apartment up until the election.

  5. David the Star Says:

It’s not just Dems. Sharon Merchant’s only cnnection to Wellington and Fla Senate District 27 is that she lost the Republican primary in 2002 and now she’s back again.

The eastern establishment politicians both Rep and Dem think we’re a bunch of dummies. We’re not. Ostrov thinks his Jewish ethnicity can get him elected in Wellington. It won’t.

Andre Fladell could get a monkey with the last name of Goldberg elected in south county. Won’t work in Wellington or county commission district 6.

  6. Alex Says:

This is a guy who works for a company that prays on innocent people in financial trouble. How he even sleeps at night let alone thinks anyone is going to run for this bi-polar predator is beyond me.

  7. Bonnie Hood Says:

Lump sum settlements are a scam!

Rob Ostrov is a scam artist!

We don’t need his kind in Wellington

  8. WellyWorld Says:

Do you folks even know him? Rob Ostrov has lived in Wellington for years, he and his wife are very involved in their children’s school. (They have two children.)

He is a former judge and a former prosecutor. He is a great person and a very honest man.

Why don’t you get to know him before you throw bombs about him? Then make an informed decision.

    WellyWorld,

I’ve been very involved in Wellington over the past 15 years and have attended meetings of and/or been involved with PZA, equestrian, education, comp plan and many other boards and committees, as well as been involved in a broad spectrum of issues and political races.

I don’t recall hearing of or meeting Mr. Ostrov. And if he’s so involved in Wellington, why did he choose to run for Hasner’s seat, which is a south county district?

I checked the directory and did indeed find a Robert Ostrov in Wellington. Althought maybe he’s a bona fide resident, it appears he hasn’t been active in trying to make make Wellington a better place. But rather, he appears to be a nomad politician seeking political opportunities.

  11. Craig Brown Says:

It is unfortunate that so many posts concentrate on the concept of exclusion. Rob Ostrov lives in the community and raises his children in the community. Having someone run that is an educated person with a history of involvement as a dedicated public servant is a positive thing people. It is part of the process. At least meet him, then if you have something negative to say, have the integrity to do it in a forum where a candidate can personally address your concerns.

  12. Involved Mom Says:

“It is unfortunate that so many posts concentrate on the concept of exclusion.”

Huh? Concept of exclusion? I do not understand the point you’re trying to make Mr. Brown. Please express it in terms us simpletons understand.

Confusing us with babblespeak won’t win our votes.
