I am very disappointed in the position Gov. Crist has taken regarding the inclusion of a "public option" in the Senate bill making its way to the Senate floor. How selfish can one be, not allowing one citizen to have the opportunity to select healthcare options that Gov. Crist himself enjoys? The governmental offices he has held over the last several years and the one he hopes to hold in the US Senate all give him the choice of a public option in healthcaare. What else would one call their program, but a public program designed to give public office holders as well as all Federal employees several choices for affordable healthcare? Come now, Gov. Crist, What is fair is fair.

Rethink your position on this issue or you may find yourself out of the Governor's mansion with no where else to go, namely the U S. Senate. I personally support "Medicare for All," not just senior citizens and I am one. Thank you for listening, but listening is not enough. You must come out in support of healthcare reform with a robust "public option."

Crist is against the public option for health care because he's already tried this idea - with property insurance in Florida. He's made a mess with Citizens and the Cat Fund, the property insurance version of the public option. Citizens is now the largest home insurance company in Florida and one of the largest in the world, but it won't be able to pay it's claims when the first hurricane hits. Also, all insurance companies must buy their reinsurance from the Cat Fund, and that's $18 billion short when the first hurricane hits. Nice public option, Charlie.

Crist is once again talking out of both sides of his mouth. He's calling the Obama health plan "cockamamie" but he has in essence done the same thing in Florida property insurance. What a hypocrite. He should just keep his mouth shut so he stops sticking his vote in it.

Vote for Charlie as the nation's most overrated Governor.

Liberals are so greedy! Trying to put the interests of the citizenry before those of big business. tsk! tsk!

But seriously, republicans won't stand for any option, because they would be even more screwed than they are now. With other states opting in, how are they going to continue to be reelected after choosing to opt out? People aren't going to be down with endorsing elected officials who aim to prevent us from having access to health care.

I love the way this debate has stripped away the facade republican morality.

That's right, keep on handing those asses right back to greedy, bloodsucking republican haters who try to control the discussion with nonsense metrics that don't ever measure up. This discussion has rekindled within me some long-discarded Florida pride, big time.

Would it look any uglier than the state still murdering convicts after 23 innocents have been found since 1973?

Would it smell any worse than the statewide, scope unknown GJ corruption probe Crist called for while he continues to sign warrants for those convicted in a faulty, imperfect human system?

Would it cost any more than the staggering stat for capital punishment appeals and state misconduct outrages?

Inmates confess that life in prison is the most feared sentence, death is welcomed from their perspective.

So, Mr Crist, competition with a state-sponsored provider has been good for the home insurance market but will be bad for the health insurance market? Mr. Crist, you're not making sense.

It is past time to have a public OPTION - let me repeat that, OPTION - no one has ever talked about a “government take over of health care” except the Republicans opposed to any reform. It's really disingenuous of Crist to knowingly spread this falsehood to scare the slow-witted - shame on you, Mr. Crist.

Enough already of the big insurance companies lining up the pockets of politicians so they'll shoot down reform that would force insurers to behave responsibly and competitively! To anyone still opposed to a public OPTION - please open your eyes. That is the reality behind every politician opposed to reform.

and another:
Eighty-three percent of Americans favor and only 14 percent oppose “creating a new public health insurance plan that anyone can purchase” according to EBRI, a conservative business research organization. This flatly contradicts conservatives’ loudest attack against President Obama’s plan to provide quality, affordable health care for all.

The Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) calls itself “the most authoritative and objective source of information” on the issues of employee retirement and health benefits. Founded in 1978, EBRI says it “is the gold standard for private analysts and decision makers, government policymakers, the media, and the public.” And EBRI is funded by many of the largest corporations in America.

EBRI’s biggest donors include: AT&T, Bank of America, Boeing, General Dynamics, General Mills, IBM, JBMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Northop Grumman, Schering-Plough, Schwab, T.Rowe Price, UBS Financial, and Wal-Mart. EBRI also receives large contributions from the insurance industry, including: Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, Hartford, Kaiser Permanente, Massachusetts Mutual, Metropolitan Life, Union Labor Life, and UnitedHealth.

Here’s who paid for the poll, as stated by EBRI:

This survey was made possible with support from AARP, American Express, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Buck Consultants, Chevron, Deere & Company, IBM, Mercer, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Principal Financial Group, Schering-Plough Corp., Shell Oil Company, The Commonwealth Fund, and Towers Perrin.
So clearly, no one can accuse this organization of being “liberal” on health care issues.

These findings are from EBRI’s 2009 Health Confidence Survey, their 12th annual poll:

Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose the following:

Creating a new public health insurance plan that anyone can purchase:
• Strongly support—53 percent
• Somewhat support—30 percent
• Somewhat oppose—5 percent
• Strongly oppose—9 percent

Having national rules requiring insurance companies to cover all people, regardless of their health problems:
• Strongly support—55 percent
• Somewhat support—25 percent
• Somewhat oppose—9 percent
• Strongly oppose—9 percent

Expanding government programs, such as Medicare or Medicaid:
• Strongly support—45 percent
• Somewhat support—30 percent
• Somewhat oppose—9 percent
• Strongly oppose—12 percent

Requiring all employers to pay toward subsidized health insurance for employees:
• Strongly support—42 percent
• Somewhat support—33 percent
• Somewhat oppose—10 percent
• Strongly oppose—12 percent

Requiring everyone to participate in some kind of health insurance plan:
• Strongly support—38 percent
• Somewhat support—30 percent
• Somewhat oppose—13 percent
• Strongly oppose—16 percent

clearly you take a page from the repubes playbook. the poll you site asks about the CURRENT legislation favored by obama and the other healthcare and big pharma money puppets, not a true medicare for all option.
Here the result is a clear 72% who want a true public-run healthcare to compete with the whores:

I prefer single payer, but that isn't in the cards yet. So a big YES to the public option, which at least 57% of Americans want. It's obvious that Crist is pandering to the Right's Foxiness. He has disappointed me with that, and I won't vote for him again.

Public Option = more taxpayer funded welfare. Costs will rise since the government pays any ridiculous amount they are billed. There was a recent article about Medicare paying 4x the cost to manufacture for those electric mobility scooters.

THOSE FIGURES THAT YOU QUOTE ARE FOXNEWS FIGURES...SO THEY DON'T FLY WITH ME! In case you didn't know it, "Polls" can be tampered with...it just depends what the Poll-takers want to accomplish!

SECOND, I GUESS IT IS ALRIGHT FOR REPUBLICANS TO SPEW THEIR NASTY AND INCORRECT THOUGHTS AND MESSAGES TO ANYONE THEY WANT, ANYWHERE THEY WANT...RIGHT?

THIS, THANK GOD, IS STILL SUPPOSE TO BE A DEMOCRACY AND EVERYONE WHO IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY WHATEVER THEY WANT, WHENEVER THEY WANT TO SAY IT...OTHERWISE...THIS WOULD NOT BE AMERICA!!! THE REPUBLICANS HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT EQUAL RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW...THE CONSTITUTION PROVIDES FOR THIS RIGHT!

SO GET OFF YOUR HIGH-HORSE AND AT LEAST LISTEN ONCE IN A WHILE TO ANOTHER VIEW POINT, THEN YOU MIGHT LEARN SOMETHING, MR. OR MS. "THINK THEY KNOW-IT-ALL"!!!

Crist is trying to get back into good graces with the Republican Party at this point! This is because the Republican Party is punishing Crist for welcoming the Simulus Plan into Florida!

That is why the Republican Majority State of Florida Legislators voted AGAINST ACCEPTING MOST OF THE STIMULUS MONEY FOR FLORIDA! They voted AGAINST...
EXTENTIONS OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR THE UNEMPLOYED OF FLORIDA! They voted AGAINST ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR FOOD STAMPS FOR THE MILLIONS OF UNEMPLOYED IN FLORIDA!

WHAT DID THEY ACCEPT? They accepted the money in the Stimulus for BIG CORPORATIONS IN FLORIDA...YOU KNOW THE CORPORATIONS THAT DONATE MONEY TO THEIR RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGNS!

THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF A "STIMULUS PACKAGE" IS TO "STIMULATE THE ECONOMY" AND ASSIST THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING DUE TO THE LOSS OF JOBS AND/OR THE ECONOMY...SO THAT THEY TOO CAN SURVIVE DURING THE TIME IT TAKES TO GET OUT OF THIS WONDERFUL MESS LEFT BEHIND BY GEORGE W. BUSH!

HOWEVER, ALL REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS, STATE LEGISLATORS, SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN...ALL OVER AMERICA....MADE A PACT AND VOWED TO MAKE THE STIMULUS PLAN FAIL BY NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT. THUS CAUSING THE ECONOMY TO RECOVER MORE SLOWLY!

THE RICH AND POWERFUL, IN OTHER WORDS, ARE TAKING CARE OF THE RICH AND POWERFUL!

IF YOU KNOW AMERICA'S HISTORY, WHEN THE 1939 DEPRESSION HIT, THE GOVERNMENT WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD MONEY TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO DO ANYTHING. THEY DID PROVIDE A STIMULUS PLAN THEN, BUT HISTORY TAUGHT US AND HISTORY BOOKS WILL TELL YOU, THAT THEY DID NOT SPEND ENOUGH AND THE RECESSION THAT FOLLOWED THE DEPRESSION, LASTED A LOT LONGER THAT IT WOULD HAVE, IF THEY HAD SPENT MORE MONEY INITIALLY OR HAD A SECOND STIMULUS BILL!

DID YOU KNOW THAT DUE TO THE RESISTANCE OF THE REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS THAT ONLY ONE-QUARTER OF THE STIMULUS MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT? THAT IS WHY THE ECONOMY HAS BEEN SLOW IN LIFTING THUS FAR!

THIS IS ALL A POLITICAL TANTRUM BY THE REPUBLICANS THAT CONSTANTLY DISTORT THE TRUTH OR ACTUAL IS OUT-IN-OUT LYING ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON! THEY HOPE TO TURN THOSE WHO LIKE PRESIDENT OBAMA AND WHAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE DOING...AGAINST THEM SO THAT IN 2010 THEY WIN SOME SEATS IN THE HOUSE OF CONGRESS AND THE SENATE.

THEY ALSO ARE DOING THIS SO THAT IN 2012, THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL LOSE HIS BID FOR RE-ELECTION!

THIS IS THE TYPICAL REPUBLICAN PLAY-BOOK ROUTINE THAT IS TAKING PLACE WITH THE HELP OF THE $50 MILLION DOLLAR MAN, RUSH LIMBAUGH, THE $35 MILLION DOLLAR MAN, GLENN BECK, THE GREAT MANIPULATORS, FOXNEWS, AND THE MANY OTHER NAY-SAYERS IN THE PRESS AND ON BLOGS! WHO IS BACKING THEM? BIG CORPORATIONS LOBBYING AGAINST TAXATION AND ALSO REGULATION!!!

THE TYPICAL, MIDDLE-CLASS MAN OR WOMAN HAS NO CLUE THAT THIS IS A "CLASS WAR" SO THAT THE RICH STAY RICH AND THE POOR STAY POOR! DO YOU THINK THAT ANY RICH KIDS HAVE GONE TO WAR IN IRAQ OR AFGHANISTAN? NO, THEY ARE ALL IN TOP COLLEGES EARNING THEIR DEGREES SO THAT THEY CAN TAKE OVER WHEN THEIR FATHERS RETIRE!

THIS IS ALSO ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA WANTING CORPORATIONS TO PAY THEIR TAXES IN AMERICA INSTEAD OF OUT-SOURCING THEIR JOBS AND THEIR MONEY TO OFF-SHORE BANKS!

THIS IS ABOUT THE RICH NOT WANTING TO PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES THAT HELP AMERICA GROW...SINCE THEY ALL GOT BUSH'S TAX CUT SINCE 2000 AND BENEFIT FROM EVERY TAX LOOPHOLE THEY CAN GET THEIR ACCOUNTANTS AND BOOKKEEPERS TO SUBSCRIBE TO!

THIS IS THE ULTIMATE TANTRUM BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TO HAVE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING IN GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS!

THEY DID THIS WITH PRESIDENT CLINTON...TORMENTING HIM FROM THE MOMENT HE TOOK OFFICE WITH "WHITE-WATER" AND MORE...AND WHEN KEN STARR, THE INDEPENDENT PROSECUTOR HIRED BY THE REPUBLICANS TO INVESTIGATE THE CLINTONS...WHEN HE LEFT THE GEORGE W. BUSH INAUGERATION CEREMONY, HE WAS ASKED BY A REPORTER IF HE EVER FOUND ANYTHING ON THE CLINTONS...HE SMILED SNIDELY AND SAID "NO"!!! IT WAS ALL AN EXERCISE IN MAKING PRESIDENT CLINTON AND THE PARTY WHICH HE REPRESENTED LOOK BAD

THIS IS THEIR WAY CONTROLLING THE UNIVERSE AT THIS POINT! ALL OF THOSE CORPORATIONS THAT GEORGE BUSH GAVE TAX BREAKS TO "GO ABROAD AND GLOBALIZE" WHICH THEN SENT THEIR "GLOBAL PROFITS" TO SWITZERLAND AND THE CAYMAN ISLANDS (OFF-SHORE BANK ACCOUNTS) SO THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES IN AMERICA.

THEY OUTSOURCED MILLIONS OF JOBS OVERSEAS TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES SO THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY THE MINIMUM WAGE OR MORE, DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY UNEMPLOYMENT TAXES OR WORKMAN'S COMPENSATION, DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SICK-TIME AND VACATION TIME FOR AMERICAN WORKERS! NO THEY GOT CHEAP, CHINESE SLAVES TO DO THEIR WORK!!!

SO YOU ASK WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH A PUBLIC OPTION? WELL, a Public Option would allow people who have no insurance or minimal insurance or pre-existing conditions to HAVE ALTERNATIVES!!! THEY WON'T HAVE TO DIE AT AGE 29, OR 46, OR EVEN AT 79 YEARS OF AGE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO HELP THEM GET WELL!

WHEN AMERICANS START OPENING THEIR EYES AND STOP LISTENING TO THE GARBAGE MEDIA WHO ARE GETTING PAID BIG BUCKS, BY THE RICH AND POWERFUL, TO STOP THEM FROM HAVING TO PAY MORE TAXES, OR FROM ANYONE GETTING AHEAD OF THEM IN BUSINESS, OR MAKE MORE MONEY WHEN WORKING FOR THEM, WHICH ACTUALLY ALLOWS THEM TO BE RICH AND POWERFUL IN THE FIRST PLACE...THEN I, AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, HAVE TO WONDER WHAT POISONED KOOL-AID IS BEING SERVED UP TO AMERICANS WHO BELIEVE ALL OF THIS PROPAGANDA?

WHERE IS OUR KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY AND OUR DEMAND FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES...BUT WHEN SOMEONE SUGGESTS THAT THE WEALTH IN AMERICA SHOULD BE SHARED...IT IS THE RICH AND POWERFUL WHO STRIKE BACK BY USING THE UNKNOWING OR UNCARING UNDERDOGS WHO WOULDN'T KNOW A PUBLIC OPTION FROM A PUBLIC AUCTION...EVEN IF IT HURT THEM IN THE END TO DO TEA-BAGGING AND RANT AND RAVE AT TOWNHALL MEETINGS WHEN WHAT THEY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT WILL ONLY BENEFIT THEM!

Absolutely. I prefer public option. Private Insurance companies are making billions at the cost of small businesses and consumers. Why would any politician favor private company even they know that Insurance companies are ripping people off. Only one answer. Those politicians are getting political contributions from those griddy insurance companies. Get rid of all the politicians who want to promote private insurance companies. They are anti-consumers.

Why are insurance companies afraid of competition? If they are acting fairly, public option should not affect them.

I am also for the public option. Nothing could be worse than the unaffordable system we have now. I am 56, have a good private sector job and have saved a few bucks along the way, but I am afraid to retire early because of what I will have to pay for health care. Why should that be the overriding factor in my retirement decision? I believe affordable health care coverage for all should be another of our inalienable rights.

Clearly, you did not do your research before making the statement that the majority want health care reform. Actually, 51% oppose it while just 23% strongly favor it. (40% strongly oppose it, myself included.)

You are just another crazy democrat, spewing whatever misinformation you want without the facts. At least I do my research first (and cite my sources)... US Government, leave my insurance alone. The track record of well-managed, fiscally responsible government sponsored programs with little fraud is abysmal. Oh wait, is there even one that can be named?

Well, Gov. Crist, I say a big YES to the public option, and a big NO to the opt-out possibility. I cannot fathom the government doing any worse than the private companies. After all, Medicare & Medicaid are government-run, as is the military, federal highway system, etc. As far as I am concerned, I don't care if all the private health insurance companies crash and burn. Some things should not be driven by profit - medicine, education, and politics. We can see what happened to politics because of money, and what is still happening to education (especially in Florida) because of money. The majority of citizens in the US wants health care reform. Stop standing in the way, Republicans!
