What can you get for a last minute political contribution?
by Michael C. Bender | September 30th, 2009Florida candidates and political parties are making a mad scramble to collect small donations before a midnight deadline for third quarter campaign finance reports.
The Florida Democratic Party says if you donate $20 or more before tomorrow, you’ll have a chance to win a free night at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club during the party’s state conference next month.
That got us wondering – what are other pols promising for your money?
Senate President Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach, promises that he’ll be “humbled” by a donation of even just $25. Atwater says your money “will go along way in helping to spread our campaign across Florida.”
Republican Gov. Charlie Crist says a small donation will help him “spread our positive message” in the U.S. Senate race. Even $25, he says, “will go a long way toward helping us achieve victory in 2010.”
Republican Marco Rubio says a small donation will help “build a path to victory” for his U.S. Senate campaign.
Democrat Kendrick Meek, another U.S. Senate contender, all but endorses Rubio in his fundraising letter in which he ultimately promises to “work to solve issues, not ignore them” if you give even $5.
Attorney General candidate Dan Gelber of Miami Beach says a donation will help him “make a strong showing” on his campaign finance reports. He also says your money will help him “get from here to there.”
State House candidate Jose Felix Diaz, R-Miami, says he’ll “gain exposure” in return for “all the financial support you can give.”
