Nelson helps kill one public-option plan, votes for another failed version

Confirming his reputation as a swing vote on health care reform, Florida’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson on Tuesday was one of five Dems to join all 10 Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee to vote against a proposal to create a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers.

Nelson later voted for a more modest public-option proposal in the committee. That measure failed 13-10, with three of Nelson’s Democratic colleagues joining Republicans in voting no.

When I moved to Florida, I wondered what the heck a dem was doing in the senate fo this conservative state. Now I know. He is just a republican in behavior but dem for the label

ALL congress people should be enrolled in Humana Gold Plus Medicare Advantage plan and see how they like it

Nelson, a true pioneer for the insurance industry.

A SWING VOTE? PRES EISENHOWER SAID, “THE BIGGEST COWARD IS ONE WHO IN TIME OF DECISION CAN’T MAKE ONE.” THE SENATOR SHOULD GO.

  5. Stephen Blache Says:

It’s time to elect people who represent the people and not the rich aristocrats of this nation. Bill Nelson should be replaced with a real Democrat in the next election.

The big money special interest are on both sides of the isle – if this fiasco doesn’t create a stampede by the population for real campaign finance reform then there is absolutely no hope for the American public. They will continue to be stampeded by the corrupt frauds who whore themselves out for fame and glory.

Where are the true patriots who put Country first – Nelson sure isn’t one of them.

    Recall the bum NOW!

  8. M. Royce Says:

I actually answered my mom’s phone and got one of these despicable calls. It only took a few seconds before the caller was telling me how seniors’ savings would be slashed, and how they could connect me with Senator Nelson’s office directly telling me what to say, etc. I gave him a piece of my mind, but that’s not gonna do anything.

What bothers me most is what an older person might feel after listening to this type of propaganda. I encourage you all to take a minute and let your senior citizen friends know what’s going on if they don’t know already. How unconscionable they are to frighten the elderly into accepting the status quo!

I also called Sentor Nelson’s office to point out that his donor insurance companies have no loyalty and his loyalty should be to the voters.

  9. JayMagoo Says:

It’s a neat piece of sophistry that money paid to Senators like Nelson by the insurance companies is not legally a bribe. In my eyes, and in the eyes of most Americans, Nelson accepted a bribe from the insurance industry to vote against the best interests of the American people, and for the Insurance industry. In my opinion, he should be arrested, tried, convicted, and sent to prison.
