Former U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw helps rivals Bogdanoff, Domino raise money for GOP state Senate primaryby George Bennett | September 28th, 2009
Shaw was also on the host committee for an Aug. 28 fund-raiser in Boca Raton for one of Domino’s GOP primary rivals, state Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale.
The invitation to Domino’s Oct. 15 fund-raiser also lists Broward County GOP Chairman Chip LaMarca as a host committee member. But LaMarca has endorsed Bogdanoff in the Republican Senate primary.
“I’m taking both sides, I guess. It’s rough when you have two friends in a race,” Shaw said. “The people in that Senate district are going to win either way.”
LaMarca said he’s personally endorsing Bogdanoff and his name on the Domino fund-raising invitation should not be seen as an endorsement. As party chairman, LaMarca said he agreed to be on the Domino invite “to be fair to everybody” and help Domino gain access to Broward Republican voters.
Bogdanoff, Domino and businessman Nick Loeb are in the GOP race for the Palm Beach-Broward seat of Senate President Jeff Atwater, a Republican who’s running for state chief financial officer.
Democratic state Rep. Kelly Skidmore of Boca Raton is also running in the GOP-leaning Senate district.
