The U.S. Census for the first time has issued figures on Americans who don’t have health insurance and the news is not good for Florida.

As leaders in Washington wrangle with the contentious issue of health care reform, Florida finds itself ranked fourth-worst in the U.S. with 20.8 percent of its citizens uninsured. That’s close to worst-in-the-nation Texas, which had 24.1 percent uninsured, and way behind Massachusetts, the best in the country, with only 4.1 percent lacking coverage.

  1. Debbie wants to know Says:

How many of these people CHOOSE not to have insurance. Many of the uninsured choose not to spend their money on Health insurance. They seem healthy and do not see the need to spend $200/ month for coverage.

  2. Sher Says:

Debbie – where can you find insurance for $200 a month as an individual? Most employers dont offer it and I cant find it for less that $300 as an individual nd Im healthy! The new coverage that BCBS and United offer in FL is BS…. None of my employees can afford insurance either on their wages. It is not a matter of CHOICE for most people I know!!!!!
