ACORN controversy sparks citizen inquiries to Gov. Crist
by Michael C. Bender | September 17th, 2009Gov. Charlie Crist’s press office said it received about 100 inquiries today regarding recent controversies involving ACORN, including one from Crist’s U.S. Senate Republican primary opponent, Marco Rubio. We’re awaiting a sample of these letters.
The text of the reply from Crist’s office is below.
Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist. The Governor appreciates your concerns about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and asked that I respond on his behalf.
According to the Governor’s Budget Director ACORN has not received taxpayer funds through the legislative appropriation process.
As you may know, an investigation began in July 2008 into allegations of voter registration fraud. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been deeply involved in this investigation. Thanks to Florida’s voter verification laws there is no evidence of fraudulent voter registrations resulting in unverified individuals being permitted to vote.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact Governor Crist.
Sincerely,
Warren Davis
Office of Citizen Services

Legislation specifically targeting one particular group or one particular person is called a “bill of attainder” and it’s expressly prohibited in our Constitution. If this is the sort of thing you support you are NOT a patriot.

Hi “Hillary”
In response to your post above where you reference a “bill of attainder”. As a liberal and therefore supporter of child prostitution, tax fraud, child abuse and welfare fraud, please let me enlighten you. The constitutional provision you misuse in your post provides no refuge to criminal organizations like the SEIU or ACORN. By your logic the Mafia & other criminal rackets like ACORN and the SEIU (the SEIU is part of ACORN) could not be denied funding or prosecuted.
BUt since you are a liberal I know that you are desparately ignorant of the law and the Constitution. Also as a liberal you have no idea what legal immigrants must testify under oath to. Legal Immigrants for example have to swear that theyare not now or have ever been members of the communist party. If they are/were they will be denied the privilage of immigration. Note also ignorant one that the Constitution specifically says that the Constitution applies to all Persons within the boundaries of the United States. Therefore, uneducated one, the Constitution explicitly provides for and allows the targeting of specific persons and groups for sanction under the legal process. I wish liberals could read…But no worries silly person it is your poor mushy weak minded flabby mindedness that we will take advantage of to unravel your little leftist cabal, ummm tasty.
Also I hereby predict that ANY of our corrupt politicians foolish and debased enough to support ACORN or it’s twisted sister the SEIU openly will find themselves hoisted on their own petard.
Happy happy joy joy…

Liberals support ACORN and it’s child abuse policies. As a conservative I am sickened by anyone who would support ACORN and I am enraged that no one seems to be taking action against an organization or person that would harm or support harming children. It makes me sick and angry now today I read that 75 DEMOCRATS IN THE US HOUSE DEFENDED ACORN. DEMOCRATS I KNOW THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE AMONG YOU WILL YOU STAND WITH YOUR FELLOW PARTY MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT ACORN AND CHILD ABUSE OR WILL YOU STAND WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AGAINST THOSE WHO WOULD HARM CHILDREN. I am sickened by anyone who supports child abuse and tax fraud. I demand that all local state and federal authorities investigate and prosecute ACORN.

Actually Hilary, a bill of attainder is a bill that imposes punishment on a specific individual or organization without a trial. The purpose of the Constitutional prohibition was to prevent the legislative branch from absorbing judicial power (i.e., separation of powers).
In ACORN’s case, the group receives financial appropriations FROM the legislative branch. It is well within Congress’ rights to strip ACORN’s funding and there is absolutely no Constitutional question about it.
However, it would be unconstitutional if Congress voted to put the CEO of ACORN behind bars.
Learn more about the Constitution before quoting it to defend your position.

Silly Liberals…ACORNS are for child molestors…
What is clear is that liberals approve of child molestation and abuse if that abuse comes from one of their own liberal sweethearts like ACORN or any other of their perverted gaggle.
I haven’t heard one liberal or democrat for that matter condemn ACORN. The only reason that the corruptocrats in congress did a sham vote is because they were being watched. So they sort of voted to cut off funds to the child rapists and tax cheats for now but not a word about an investigation, nope not a single solitary word. Clearly Democrats support child rape and tax evasion, I mean look at Tim Geithner he’s like their poster child for tax fraud. Obama is bringing up the rear with his child molesting, voter fraud buddies at ACORN. Looks like he’s supporting taxpayer funded obamacare for illegal aliens too, he just promised today to get them amnesty so they won’t be “illegal” anymore, what a total liar. good luck on the mid terms liberals…

We need to investigate the actions of ACORN in Florida as well as the action of George LaMiuex and the lack of action of Governor Crist.
