Martinez' legacy is that he represented only the Hispanic interests which frequently trumped his representation of the mainstream Republicans who got him elected. The press spun this as being bi-partisan. He could not find a balance and that would have kept him from being re-elected. Whatever spin he choses to give, he can safetly return to being an Orlando PI lawyer where the real money can be obtained.

I agree with Jim that there is no chatter about him being a quitter like Sarah Palin. Usually that chatter came from the far left and those who are threatened by her. Mel Martinez is not a true conservative and is not threat. He would not have been re-elected. Also, he is a man and they for some reason are treated differently than woman. She at least had several good reasons for quitting, eventhough I myself was a little dissappointed but I understand.

Thank you, Mel you were a great supporter of our liberal ways; you voted like a democrat with your support of Sotomayor and her RACIST & Gender biased opinions.

You help my babies daddy get elected and we the AFROAMERICANS thank the hispanics and jews that support me & BHO.

Good Luck with your new Cuban job.

He would not have gotten re-elected anyway. Hopefully Crist will appoint a true conservative. Hopefully he will not appoint himself. As conservatives we have lots of battles to fight. 2010 is looking brighter and brighter but, we must be careful who we elect. We must elect people that remember that they work for us and not the party. We must take our country back.

If you go through the effort and money to get elected, DON'T QUIT. How are your supporters supposed to feel good about that? Many people put their hard-earned money and their limited time into his campaign and he decides to "get on with his life"?

At least he's consistent in his quitting as even the article mentions.

Mel was Okay. At least he wasn't Castor who would have been just another hateful, partisan Democrat in the Senate. Chuckie Schumer, Harry Reid, and Barbara Boxer fill that roll quite well.

I didn't notice any of the quitter chatter that was associated with Sarah Palin, must be they wore that out.

I wish Mel good luck and sincerely hope he finds a niche. Hopefully, voters will remember Mel and vote a real Conservative in next time around. I'm afraid our Governor is just another Conservative lite waiting to compromise with Obama and the Democrats and he'll be taken for a ride every time.
