Marek execution still on for 6 p.m.

The Florida Supreme Court refused to grant a stay of execution for John Richard Marek, a convicted murderer scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection at 6 p.m. today.
Marek and Raymond Wigley were convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering Adela Marie Simmons in 1983 when her car broke down on the turnpike near Stuart.
Marek has another appeal pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. A circuit court judge on Monday also denied another hearing to Marek, who claims that Wigley killed Simmons. Wigley was sentenced to life while Marek received the death penalty. Marek’s lawyers argue that he, too, should be serving life in prison.
Marek has spent more than two decades on Florida’s Death Row. Gov. Charlie Crist ordered him to be put to death in May but the Supreme Court halted that. If the execution takes place today, Marek will be the fourth Death Row inmate to be executed since Crist took office in 2007.

Can anyone tell me why, when an individual kills an individual we call that a crime, but when the state kills an individual we call that justice?

Amazes me how we let this man live for 2 decades, even if he didn’t kill this woman like he claims he should die for the horror he put her through!
I just wish he met the same fate as Wigley who was strangled to death in his cell, the same way they murdered this lady.
This man is a coward and deserves to DIE!

Here’s why it’s called justice …
According to the record evidence recited by the appellate court, “the victim had been strangled between approximately 3:00 and 3:30 a.m., and was probably conscious for one minute after the ligature was applied to her neck. Her body was extensively bruised and her finger and pubic hairs had been burned. The medical examiner testified that he found sperm in the victim’s cervix and believed she had had sexual intercourse after 11:30 p.m. on June 16. Bruises indicated that the victim had been kicked with a great deal of force. According to the examiner, some of the victim’s injuries indicated she had been dragged up to the roof of the lifeguard shack and into the observation tower.”
Marek forfeited his right to live.

26 years on death row is not the death penalty, that’s life. More than Ms. Simmons had. Now 26 years later he’s getting the needle. Why did it take so long?

Seriously? Do you not read the news? The average inmate spends 20-30 years on Death Row because of numerous appeals.
Pick up the dang paper more often. You’ll maybe learn something.
