Final figures are in from the “telephone town hall” on health care that U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, hosted Wednesday night.

The 70-minute event drew 6,350 callers and cost $12,964. That’s $2.04 per participant.

The expenditure comes out of the $1.5 million office budget Klein gets as a member of Congress for staff salaries, travel and constituent-service costs.

$13K for not-90 minutes on the phone? For someone who beats his chest and says “I’m a budget-hawk” every chance he gets, it doesn’t seem like very sound financial policy. I guess some people buy (into) things before they really understand the costs involved. Doesn’t bode well for our future under your leadership. Redeem yourself — stand side by side with your distinguished colleague Congressman Hastings this Thursday afternoon at the governmental center and face your constituency!!!

  5. Smirking Says:

Had he held a real town hall, the tab for the police detail alone would have been a hell of a lot higher. He actually saved the taxpayers a boatload of money.

  6. Rep. Klein Spends $13,000 of Taxpayer Money on Telephone Town Hall  | OpenMarket.org Says:

[...] A politician wasting taxpayers’ money is generally not surprising. A congressman spending nearly $13,000 on a telephone town hall meeting, though, certainly is. [...]
