Hillary Clinton disses Jeb Bush in Nigeria

by George Bennett | August 15th, 2009

In case you didn’t follow every turn of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s tour of Africa this week, she appeared to equate former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s role in the 2000 presidential recount with Nigeria’s notorious history of political corruption.

“In 2000, our presidential election came down to one state where the brother of the man running for president was the governor of the state. So we have our problems too,” America’s top diplomat said.

Here’s a full account from ABC News, including this modified walk-back by a State Department spokesman: “The point she is making is that it’s about a disputed result and then the willingness of the candidates to accept a flawed result rather than, say resort to violence.”

  1. Whatawonderfulworld Says:

Hillary is correct. Election 2000 was a debacle and Jeb Bush was at the head of it although he tries to convince that he wasn’t. His appointments handled the situation for him.

  2. Mike Says:

The New York Times, The Washington Post, (both VERY Liberal newspapers) and several other organizations did lengthy studies after the 2000 election and all concluded…

    http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/12/politics/12VOTE.html

A close examination of the ballots found that Mr. Bush would have retained a slender margin over Mr. Gore if the Florida court’s order to recount more than 43,000 ballots had not been reversed by the United States Supreme Court.

Even under the strategy that Mr. Gore pursued at the beginning of the Florida standoff filing suit to force hand recounts in four predominantly Democratic counties Mr. Bush would have kept his lead, according to the ballot review conducted for a consortium of news organizations.

  3. kevin Says:

what more do you people want. you have your guy in office. you’re sore losers and sore winners. now we’re telling countries in Africa what a screwed up country we are. what genius.

  4. Honest Abe Says:

Hillary lies and implies just like Bill. Jeb recused himself, surrendering all authority to control the 2000 Florida Presidential ballot. And Hillary forgot that 7 major newspapers in Florida counted ALL the votes as the Florida Supreme Court ordered (remember the 14th amendment?, and Bush still won. Forget facts, forget the complete story, just lie. It must run in the family.

  5. Former Republican Says:

It doesn’t take above average intelligence to read into the agenda of our previus administration. it does take above average intelligence to put those lessons behind and make certain they are never repeated, that is what this administration seems to want to do. Those of you who cannot admit the mistakes of the past are destined to repeat them or condone those who do…

  6. grosero Says:

    “”"”Hillary lies and implies “”"”

    PURE BULL…

Just like the Right Wings scar tactics on Health Care Reform…

King George’s Health Care was …don’t get sick…

Jeb’s motto was to bury is head…But that not sand that he buried it into

  7. fone Says:

Hillary is an expert on polictial corruption.

  8. David the Starr Says:

Just when I was beginning to feel redemption towards the Clinton’s, I now remember that they’re trailer trash with some brains.

  9. Gene Rogers Says:

    Jeb Bush,
Carlye Group, Blackwatch, Armando Cordina, Bank United,Harrison, Diebold, the hanging chads.
He was and is envolved in all these groups.
Dubya’s election in Florida was definitely fixed by him.

  10. Observer Says:

Well, in all fairness it wasn’t just Jeb - remember Kathryn Harris (of the make-up and mink)?

Better believe that he was dictating outcomes behind the scenes

  11. BERNIE Says:

Clintonian trash talk… if you follow the rules… you will get elected. And that is what happened in Florida in 2000… If the laws were violated then it would have been highly publicized on the front pages of the leftist newspapers and TV. The Dems had plane loads of attorneys planned for a trip to Florida… They were destined to come here so the Dems can lead the process for Americans to lose faith in the election process… all to create more mayhem… As for more mayhem…Now they have the Union goons and ACORN Nuts standing in front of courthouses and grocery stores getting signatures for the Bill Graham destruction of the Redistricting at each census. Floridians you better wake up to the anarchist Democrat party and the THUGS from Chicago running America. Oh, one question… Why didnt Bob Graham do a work day as a prisoner. He did it as a guard only. The prisoner work day would have atleast given him a look at what he will be facing in the future when America takes back it’s constitutional government from thieves like him and a few RINO Republicans.

  12. anon Says:

Hillary is right, Jeb did head the corruption. Florida had been growing in electoral votes and thats why the guy came here to live then run and run for Governor. And this state has some of the most ignorant poeple living in it to think otherwise. And those 8 years of diastrous presidency led to the current state of affairs in this country. Which will take way more that the less than 9 months our current President has had to try to improve things. And any one thinking it can be repaired overnight like they have been thinking is as ignorant as much of our population here.

  13. ScrewedFLVoter Says:

Katherine Harris did exactly what the Bush family told her to do (including throwing out absentee ballots - all votes WERE NOT COUNTED - like MINE!) and was handsomely rewarded for it. I’m so glad Secretary of State Clinton reminded the world about the republican corruption that has played the biggest role in getting America into the mess we’re in (can you say deregulation and trickle down - we all got trickled on all right, but it didn’t smell like money!). He’ll be running for president soon - God help us if he’s elected.

  14. crapublican Says:

Dubya’s brother fix the election and we got robed, but thoes four years where the last nail in the republicraps coffin now they will not get elected to office for the next 12 years at least, unless of course we elect trailer trash palin! HAHAHAHA

  15. Gary Munsterman Says:

Hilary’s failed trip to Africa demonstrates her lack of political skill. This is why President Obama beat her and why she will not last four years as the Secretary of State. During this “trip” she lost her temper, maligned a States Governor and criticized the USA in one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Hilary is about Hilary.

  16. anon Says:

Gary, she just said it like it was…I’m sure leaders of other countries get sick of the BS too. maybe she will earn some respect for that. Seems like her husband did pretty well last week in bringing home the two reporters. Is Bill only all about Bill too?

  17. Kerry Lynn Says:

Enough about those Dirty Bushes, this country is messed up because us their senseless acts while in office. They each were attempting to grow on America like the great Regan, but failed tremendously.
Noticed that pappa Bush, isn’t heard from that much since Dumb Dumber left the political arena. He too realizes that they did a horrible time while in office. No way this superior country should be this far behind thats unless people continue to judge others by their ethincty, socialability, and economical abilities.
Thanks for at least acknowledging that we too have issues and until we do this we will never be superior in the minds of others abroad.

  18. GioT Says:

Hillary showed her lack of class and reminded us why she lost to Obama. If her last name was not Clinton she never would have been elected Senator in NY and never would have been a front runner for the presidency which she should have won but ran an arrogant campaign. Can anyone out there name one thing she has done for this country as a senator or now as sec. of state that is positive. Name one thing. If she wasn’t married to Bill she would just be another lawyer out there.

  19. HEY MIDDLE AMERICA Says:

here we go again…the whiny lying left lying about the 2000 election again…so i will set the record straight again…internal polling by the demonratz just before the 2000 election indicated that certain demonratz were not going to vote for anyone for prez…they said we cannot allow this so they hired the “chad cleaner”…this is how it was supposed to work…the chad cleaner would take a small stack of voter cards and poke through the “slot” for hot air al…and this is why…if the voter card had no removed chads(the voter voted for nobody)the result would be +1 for hot air al…if the card had a chad removed (vote) for hot air al the result would be the same…and if the card had a chad removed (vote) for w the result would be a “double” vote and the result would be -1 for w…which is the same as +1 for hot air al…but the chad cleaner screwed up and “cleaned” #2 which was buchannon’s slot…to cover for all the extra overvotes they started the “i was confused” lie early on election day…there is a statistical “normal” amount of overvotes that would be exceeded and this needed explained…in addition the attorney general of fl was also hot air al’s statewide campaign chairman and he used his official position as att gen to instruct people in every county how to get the overseas military ballots thrown out…in addition demonrat operatives filed lawsuits in every fl county to get the overseas military ballots thrown out…then the fl supreme court took control of the election in violation of the law and said to recount only a certain portion of all the votes…this is what the u.s. supreme court said by 7-2 was illegal and by 5-4 said that the fl supreme court needed to come up with a legal remedy…but the deadline came and the sec of state signed off on the results which had w winning…and after a year of scrutiny by many major newspapers the results of the investigation revealed that w did indeed win

  20. JimC Says:

Republicans are the main reason our country is in trouble. They are racist, ignorant. greedy, hicks. We need to sterilize them and then deport them.

  21. Ben Says:

I wish they’d quit talking about the 2000 election and move forward. They got what they wanted, a democratic congress, a democratic white house. I think the people deserve something better than this partisan bickering. When will we have an independent in the white house?

  22. OBIWAN Says:

Former governor Jeb Bush completed a full 8 years and not one newspaper in the state had a list of anything but accomplishments. OBVIOUS blasts you in the face - that is Jeb Bush’s legacy!!

Tax cuts; major massive infrastructure spending on hiways, schools, environment; education achievements previously unattainable; job growth every consecutive year - the only major state in the nation to do it; refinancing all future bonded debt at the highest rating available; AND left us with over $7 Billion in Surplus….

2000 was smoke and mirrors - the real story was that Dumbocrat TV network that declared Gore winner and hour befor our Panhandle pools closed! The talking heads disagree on the numbers, but readily admit it cost GW Bush between 15,000 and 40,000 votes…. The Supreme Court ruled, voluntary news media found no method of vote counting that could have changed the results, Dems stopped short of shattering our Constitition…THAT is the message any reputable, honorable US Secretary of State would share with fledging African democracies that have failed miserably since leaving Colonialism that took them out of their Dark Ages…………………..and would IF BILLARY wasn’t totally lacking honesty and integrity in favor of her base Marxist views!!

  23. Randall F, Greene Says:

At least she is consistent in proving what a complete moron she is as the top Diplomat for our country. She is an angry woman and she cannot help but let that anger bubble forth. My prediction is that she will be out of there shortly as Obama has two loud mouthed morons working for him with Biden being number 2, and our country does not need this kind of childish behaviour at the top levels.

  24. Hillary WHO? Says:

But really Hillary, I would rather know what Bill has to say. After all, he is really the only Clinton that knows anything. You are just a lying moron. Ducking any sniper fire over there?

  25. jerry Dale Says:

Hillary is an angry Person. She lost to A State Senator who was unheard of not too long ago. She is jealous of Her Husband and puts Him down when She could. “What A Piece of work”

  26. frances snoot Says:

When will the Post research SBA and the money lost due to fraud and corruption from our state funds? The money is gone. Where did it go? Laundered in the Caymans? How much money is left in the Hurricane Relief fund? The pension fund, the prepaid tuition fund…et al?
    http://www.forbes.com/2007/11/30/florida-bush-lehman-biz-beltway-cx_mb_1130florida.html
Jeb Bush was not tried, not accused: Jeb went on to a lucrative contract as a consultant for Lehman brothers.

The coverup of corruption at the state level was enabled by Crist, who sat on the board of the fund and ignored the crisis until there was a run on the funds.

    Remember?

  27. p danforth Says:

Why is Hillary summering in the Congo? Isn’t she our Sec. of State? With all that is going on in the world, shouldn’t she spend more time in the Middle East, Russia, Europe, Afghanistan?

Sounds like she’s been demoted to the J.V. squad.

  28. Hangman Says:

    Hillary is a FAT liar…

  29. frances snoot Says:

Any Florida resident that is supporting Jeb Bush at this point will believe anything, anytime, anywhere.

Corruption is in Both political parties! Don’t stand behind thieves and liars because of partisan affiliations.

  30. Michelle Obama Says:

My tribes are now in charge. Accorn allowed my babies daddy to win the election. Clinton is white trash, but we have margnized her and bill. Bush has nothing on my peeps. Whitery will pay…

  31. get real Says:

This from the woman who had her minions running through vince foster’s office pulling her incriminating files before his body was even found dead in the park from a “self inflicted” gunshot wound to the head. The first Lady of the most corrupt administration (although soon to be elipsed by this present bunch) should just shut her mouth and realize that even her own party new how corrupt she was and tossed her overboard.

  32. Dissident Says:

And still no long form birth certificate from the Messiah. Impeach Obama now!

  33. Dee Says:

I am sick and tired of Obama and all his “cronies” including Hillary! For God’s sake, she can now attest to partnering with two corrupt administrations. “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”, as the saying goes………

  34. GG Says:

    Hillary has no power.

  35. Don Says:

Why can’t anyone believe that any political opponent has any integrity? I saw Jeb in his office the day after the election. He was sincerely believing the Florida Courts would handle the situation and he showed no desire to intervene. He remained passive throughout the contest.

That other Republican officials fierecly defended the official counts all of which showed a Republican victory is not remarkable in the least and not attributable to Jeb’s appointments or guidance. Jeb’s non-involvemnt was remarkable and no one respected him for it.

Our partisanship is making us all ridiculous.

  36. JimC Says:

All the jebbie backers have selective memories- you conveniently forget the hundreds of millions from the Florida retirement fund lost because he put in on Enron. Kathryn Harris did his dirty work and made sure dumbya won. If all the votes had been counted- not just those Gore wanted- Gore would have won- righties conveniently leave out that FACT also. Jebbie is a loser like his bug-eyed mother. The bushes didn’t have a decent kid in the bunch- all jebbies kids have been arrested. His druggie daughter should have gone to prison but she got “a program” and immedicatyely violated the rules- and got away with it. jebbie is a wuss and a thief like all Republicans.

  37. JimC Says:

We need a big increase in Mental Health care if the righty responses are indicative of that group as a whole- righty posts seem to be written by total racist lunatics.

  38. S M Anderson Says:

The problem with the 2000 election in Florida is that not all votes were counted. Organized diruptions in Miami were one example - and absentee ballots were not counted. As one absentee voter, that result was NOT acceptable, and we will never vote for anyone who runs for any other office who was involved in that corruption of our rights. It’s not about political party. It’s about constitutional rights.
