Crist, Palin are “quitters” according to new Democratic web ad

by Michael C. Bender | July 17th, 2009

Republican Gov. Charlie Crist is getting it from both ends of the political spectrum.

First, Crist’s GOP primary opponent Marco Rubio blasted Crist in a press release, challenging Crist to an online debate if the governor is too busy to find time to debate. Rubio has asked Crist to participate in 10 debates before their primary election next year. But Rubio’s campaign noted that while the governor has not responded, he does have time to attend a fundraiser this weekend at the home of Real Housewives of New York television star Jill Zarin.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has unveiled the above web ad. The group says its hoping to show that Crist “put his own political ambitions ahead of his constituents. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and New Hampshire Attorney General Jill Ayotte are also featured in the spot.

“Republicans seem to be making a habit out of abandoning their posts when the times get tough,” DSCC Communications Director Eric Schultz said in a statement. “Charlie Crist created an enormous economic mess in Florida, and is now fleeing at the first chance he gets.”

Republicans respond:

“First it was President Bush, now it’s Governor Palin – when will the Democrats stop trying to turn Republican candidates into other people and finally focus on the critical issues facing America, like bipartisan health care reform and skyrocketing unemployment?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson.

“Obviously the Democrats are nervous about Governor Crist’s candidacy if they’re spending this much time lobbing these pathetic attacks instead of figuring out how to turn our nation’s economy around. Perhaps they should redirect their energies toward accomplishing something positive for the American people.”

  1. Bernie Cody Says:

Charley Christ and Sarah Palin should be suspended from running for another office until their present term is expired. These are not entertainers breaking contracts, these are governors elected by the people to serve the people. If they cannot forfill their promises then quitters they are and suspensions are in order.
It does not matter what party they represent they are not trust worthy of our support.

  2. Hugh Donovan Says:

Mr. Cody you are a bafoon. The dems that sponsored this ad didn’t seem to mind that Hillary spent 2 years of her NY senate seat running for president. Nor did they mind that Obama did the same thing but for a longer period of time. Just more trash talking from the left.

Mr. Cody, If I were you, and I thank my personal God I am not, I wouldn’t be chin wagging about Crist and Palin. Why don’t you go out and get a job that pays taxes so you can stop soaking off us hard working, tax paying amercians that are contributing to society.

  3. stevereenie Says:

Mr. Donovan, great point about Bernie Cody. Not exactly a paramount of intellectualism.

  4. RobWPB Says:

The only quitters I know are the people that go to AA; oh, and appearantly no know cares. Three comments in 36 hours. :-)

  5. Bernie Cody Says:

It appears that the wizards that responded to my message have very short memories. You forgot to include Bill Clinton and GWB in your comments when they was governors. Sarah Palin did not even serve half of her first term before she quit. Our great senator from Arizona spent the same 2 1/2 years on the campaing trail before he lost the election. He is now on the campaing trail for his next senatorial race in 2010. No-one has mentioned that. I suggest you look in the republican mirror before you cast stones. My other question to you is: do you understand and comprehend what is the difference between a democract and a liberial, and a republican and a conservative and where has a 2 trillion dollar surplus gone in eight years.
You don’t have to be a wizard to read past the Headlines, but it would help you all in learning your history!!

  6. Bernie Cody Says:

PS: I voted for Charley Christ!!

  7. chickster Says:

Mr. Cody, you don’t think it’s being responsible to not allow your state to rack up millions in legal fees because irrisponsble socialist bloggers deluge them with ethics complaints? Ms. Palin has left Alaska in very good hands. While Mr Obama (with 1 year ex) in the senate has taken us to the bottom. I agree with you on Charlie, he only cares about his image. good riddance to him and vote for RUBIO>

  8. Mike Says:

Mr Cody… Your patetic attempt to call Crist and Palin quitters just shows that you people on the left are desparate. How come I didn’t hear you yelling at Obama when just 2 years into his first term, he didn’t have the guts to resign his Senate seat to run for higher office… he continued to feast at the public taxpayers expense, neglecting his senatorial duties, but still collecting a paycheck! Obama and all of the lefties are HYPOCRITES! and in 2010, many of them are going to join the ranks of the UNEMPLOYED!

  9. Olga Says:

Crist vs Kendrick Meek can we say Crist will win 65 to 35. What Dems should be worried about id Obama bankrupting the country and the federal giveaway of our tax dollars. Rememeber everything happening was predicted by Hillary about Obama last year in the spring.

  10. Sid Dinerstein Says:

Obviously the “quitter” label can cover a lot of mileage. Our Quitter In_Chief is of course President Obama, Senator for about 20 minutes before running for President. Alex Cink? She served the same number of days in her new job as Governor Crist did in his.
So the only relevant question is: Why is the Palm Beach Post promoting partisan ads on the top of their web home page. And we don’t even have to ask which party the Post is promoting.
To my friends who still work at the Post: You still don’t get it. Putting editorials on Page 1 on the web will be as successful as putting them on Page 1 on your daily.

  11. SK-Wellington Says:

All of the partisanship in this country has really gotten old.

Both parties were responsible for the troubles we have locally, statewide and nationally. No one executive, be he/her a Governor, or President, is at fault for all matters coming into his or her term of office.

The issues, such as healthcare, the economy, and other long term matters, are just that, long term. They a long time to be created, and by many other players.

This state has had more than its share of corrupt politicians on both sides of the isle in the past and the present. The same is true of the National scene. Failure of anyone to see this as fact is indicative of the very corruption that so pervades the politics in the United States – though we proclaim our self-righteousness abroad.

The failures of our elected officials to truly represent the people (all of the people) for the betterment of ALL members of our society, is but a testament to fact that many of our leaders are elected for either personal gain, or the gain of their influentual allies; and are not in politics for its altruistic values.

  12. Bernie Cody Says:

Chickster, Even I couldn’t take this great country to the bottom in 100 days.
You/I have no idea what the state of the country was on January 25th, nor do we know what the true position is today. I think many of us would be back on the roof of our headquaters if we knew.
To the remainder of you I pray that you all get the things you earned and deserve.
I see no point in continuing this discussion since none of you have a plan, nor the power to carry it out.
    Have a great day!!!

  13. zhoayang Says:

How about Kathleen Sebelius and Janet Napolitano? ARE they are not quitters? DNcC is stupid and well as palm trash post!

  14. sign o the times Says:

the entire process is corrupt to the core. that core is campaign financing… until we get the will of the people on the agenda, i wish all these career leaches, oops, politicians would quit…

i’d like to experience leadership that didn’t beg, borrow, steal, or inhert the million bucks it takes to buy a seat in the capital these days.

want good representation? want less special interests? want less corruption?

publically funded campaigns and term limits are a low cost easy way to get there.

our elected leaches won’t hear of it…
their corrupt little worlds would collapse

at every primary vote the incumbent out. after a few election cycles the people may be heard

  15. jim Says:

Mr. Cody are you just another quitter?

  16. jim Says:

I’d like to see a coman man run for office someone who has little money someone who has there hart for america. Why does it cost so damn much money to run for office i don’t think it does only for the exposure you know tv cable time news and news paper magazines that kind of crap thats where you need to pay off all these big guys so that you can be heard. What a shame because there some people out there that realy has there hart for our country and can’t get a minute of time on tv cable news ect ect i wounder how Abe did it with no money wow it must of been great back then men had to work for there country i wounder who broke that tradition?

  17. LRT Says:

They are quitters…They quit the jobs they were expected to fulfill.. Get a Clue People!
Call them anything you like..BUT, they are QUITTERS!

  18. Mike Says:

To LRT…. your post shows that if brains were dynamite, you don’t have enough to rattle your eyes!

  19. Muhls Says:

Jim, More people should be for Ron Paul. He is One of mabe 5 good politicians out there fighting for our civil liberties and our freedoms. America needs to WAKE up a realize that most of these guys like SK-Wellington said

“are elected for either personal gain, or the gain of their influentual allies; and are not in politics for its altruistic values”

Obaba is a joke just like, christ and palin are. Where is the change? no change here the just more of the same bs they and the media have been feeding us the past decade. Hope all of the change zobies are happy this guy is running our country into the ground and into debt. KEEP printing that money obama… you cant cure debt…with more debt…

  20. Jim Temple Says:

IT’s amazing, we have a health care debate going on and the Post thinks an ad, from the Democrats attacking Crist and Palin is a winner of a story. Does anyone remember what Barack Obama did with all his Senate time? Does anyone care that we just elected a president with the least amount of experience possible because of outfits like the Post?

Cap and Trade and Healthcare are the 2 most important issue for this country because of the damage they can do. It’s about time the Post started giving its readers all the information they can muster, both pro and con, so we can make rational decisions when writing our congressional representatives. Instead we get this drivel.

  21. LRT Says:

Mike…hahahahaha I see you are an insipid nitwit and a Republican.
Don’t be sour grapes because your Politicians are Quitters!

  22. marc estee Says:

Yeah, call them quitters but don’t say a thing against the lying decieving president we ended up with

  23. Big Daddy Says:

No matter how you spin it, neither Charlie Crist nor Sarah Palin accomplished much of their campaign goals before they sought to leave their elected posts to pursue a new one (or none, in Sarah Palin’s case). They weren’t asked to serve in a new capacity nor were they appointed to a higher public office. They both decided the grass was greener out of their respective governor’s mansions. One says she is seeking the stress free life of a regular hockey mom; the other is grasping for the highest political office his bland demeanor and affable nature will allow him.

Regardless of how their supporters try to turn this failure to complete the goals for which they were elected into another exercise in willingly ignoring reality, the fact remains. Charlie Crist and Sarah Palin quit on the people in the states that elected them to be chief executive and steer legislation, represent the state, and propose realistic solutions for their problems. All This says to the world that my governor is a guy who likes getting elected to office, but not using the power he ran to acquire to do anything but obtain another more powerful office that is easier to retain. He is effectively saying to me and the other Floridians — Lower property taxes–not my problem; state wide child guardianship in shambles–not my problem; state education and tax structure on the edge of oblivion–NOT MY PROBLEM! I wanna ride the Senator pony; I’m tired of the governor ride. Sarah Palin said he same thing to her people in Alaska. It is much different for a chief executive to suddenly abdicate their duties than it is for a representative–there are 535 representatives–number of governors–1.

The only people that Charlie Crist and Sara Palin are looking out for is Charlie Crist and Sarah Palin. Neither you nor I get any benefit from that unless they adopt us. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to spend one minute in either of the freak shows they call home. Neither one has what I would call a proper social barometer; self analysis and reflection for purposes of self improvement don’t seem to go well with a guy who got married to stave off rumors he’s gay and be a better VP candidate; they are even less visible in a woman who largest post- 2008 election accomplishment has been to spar publicly with her daughter’s baby daddy about her own unrealized dreams of self-aggrandizement.

So no matter what anyone says about other people in politics, that doesn’t erase the fact that Charlie Crist and Sarah Palin are quitters. It isn’t being hypocritical to demand more of these state commanders-in-chief. They have been at their jobs for the last 2 years with Republican legislatures and still produced zero results. What exactly is their excuse other than incompetence?

  24. ELC Says:

If I’ve said it once-I’ve said it many
times-Choo Choo Charlie is not who Floridians should be voting for. What
exactly has he accomplished so far as
Governor? He works very hard on his tan-
that’s for sure. He should have been at
a Governor’s meeting this weekend. Instead, he’s on LongIsland(my former
    home)looking for contributions.I’ll contribute-garbage-that’s what I think
of him. I respect the other Governors
bailing out because they are working on
budgets. Not Choo Choo. He only works for
his self image. Any Floridan voting for
    him needs their head examined.

  25. Alex Says:

Quitters! Thats the best argument you can come up with? What a fool, are you still in grade school! If that’s the best argument any anti Palin group can say, then I think Mrs. Palin will kick Democrap tush in the next election.
