Senate leadership pileup for Benacqusito (cont’d)
by George Bennett | June 30th, 2009
- Haridopolos
- Benacquisto
Haridopolos is in line to become Senate president in November 2010. Current Senate Prez Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach, has endorsed Benacquisto, as has previous Senate President Ken Pruitt, R-Port St. Lucie, and Majority Leader Alex Diaz de la Portilla.
Republican Sharon Merchant, expected to launch her own Senate campaign Wednesday, has endorsements from three Republican Senators.
District 27 is now represented by Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, who is running for attorney general.

Thanks for the update! And best of luck to soon to be Senator Benacquisto!

Merchant and her advisors are going to crash and burn. They still can’t get over the loss to Pruitt. In their minds this campaign is against him and they will emerge victorious and they will be redeemed. Won’t happen.
Merchant will become recklessly negative, and because they had plenty of forewarning it will deplete the political capital of Kimberly Mitchell, Karen Marcus and others.

LB- a pretty face, she built a playground, but still a bunch of questions and skeletons… we’ll see….

Eh confirms Monroe Street’s assessment. Merchant has no record to run on so she’ll be attacking. Benacquisto has built a playground and she’s been dealing with all the other issues associated with a municipality of over 50,000 people along with regional issues such as storm water management and transportation. Merchant can’t even begin to match this, so she and her supporters such as eh are already beginning a nasty whisper campaign.

Eh, your remarks appear to be those of someone involved in the Merchant campaign. So is your strategy to attack Benacquisto for serving the people of Wellington as a councilwoman?
And your snide hint at skeletons demonstrates the nastiness has already begun.

Well, supporters of both sides are getting nasty which will only help the Democrat that ends up running. The best weapon the Democrats have against us is ourselves. This seat will remain in the hands of the Democrats simply because our pettiness will hand it to them like we did last November. Hey Wellington Republican, I did not see you had that name so I will use Wellington Republican Bill.
