Not so.
“I’m still very much considering getting into the attorney general’s race,” Smith said this afternoon.
Smith, Aronberg and state Sen. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, have been talking extensively over the last few weeks about avoiding a primary in the attorney general’s race. Smith and Aronberg are particularly close, with Aronberg one of Smith’s top supporters when Smith unsuccessfully sought the 2006 Democratic nomination for governor.
When Palm Beach County Democratic Chairman Mark Alan Siegel heard Aronberg was running for AG, he said, “I guess that means Smith isn’t going to run….My understanding was they had an understanding.”
Smith said he’d prefer to avoid a primary, but said, “I will be making my decision not based on what somebody else’s decision is.”
He added: “I think David Aronberg’s a good candidate. He’s a good person and I consider him a friend….You’re not going to hear me say bad things about him.”
Gelber wasn’t immediately reachable this afternoon.
