Another $74,600 for Rooney; Mitt tonight
by George Bennett | October 23rd, 2008Republican challenger Tom Rooney, already enjoying a $46,200-to-$1,500 money-raising edge over Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney since Oct. 15, reported another $74,600 in contributions today. Mahoney’s money-raising has slowed since news broke that he put a mistress on his congressional and campaign payrolls, fired her, then paid a $121,903 settlement this year to try to keep the matter quiet.
During the last 20 days before an election, congressional candidates must report donations of $1,000 or more within 48 hours of receiving them. The $74,600 Rooney reported today came from a Tuesday night event in Hobe Sound headlined by House Republican Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri.
Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 prez hopeful Mitt Romney will be in Miami tonight for another Rooney fund-raiser.
