How the abortion tie went down

by Michael C. Bender | April 30th, 2008

Going into the abortion vote, seven Republican senators needed to switch sides to defeat the bill by causing at least a tie in the chamber, where Republican outnumber Democrats, 26-14.

It was already known that Democrat Sen. Gary Siplin would switch and vote yes on the Republican-sponsored bill.

Here were the seven Republicans who voted against the bill: Mike Bennett of Bradenton, Evelyn Lynn of Ormond Beach, Lisa Carlton of Osprey, Paula Dockery of Lakeland, Dennis Jones of Seminole, Jim King of Jacksonville, and Burt Saunders of Naples.
