Pass the Pork
by llipman@coxnews.com | July 20th, 2006The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a self-proclaimed taxpayer watchdog group, has released its annual ratings of how well members of Congress did in voting against what it deems “wasteful programs and pork-barrel spending.”
Not surprisingly, the list of issues chosen by the group favors Republicans over Democrats.
Among the Florida delegation,
Tom Feeney rated highest in fighting pork with a score of 94 percent. Katherine Harris came in fifth with a score of 81 percent.
Mark Foley rated 70 percent and Clay Shaw had a 65 percent rating, the lowest among Florida’s 18 Republican members.
Robert Wexler’s score was 10 percent and Alcee Hastings’ rating was 3 percent, the state’s lowest.
Among the senators, Mel Martinez rated 71 percent while Bill Nelson rated 33 percent, tied with Russell Feingold of Wisconsin for sixth highest among Senate Democrats.
